Who doesn’t love milktart (melktert)? This traditional South African sweet tart is always a must-have when you have friends and family over for a braai. When you have a decadent tea time treat. Or simply just because! And last week, we asked our followers on Instagram where we can find the best milktart in Joburg – and they didn’t disappoint! Some answers are surprising, some we called too, and others are new mentions we need to try for ourselves. Here’s what Joburgers voted!

Olivia’s Coffeebake
In our last edition – The Best Voted Coffee in Joburg – Olivia’s made an appearance. And this week, they make another appearance as one of the best spots to get milktart in the city. So, grab yourself one of their coffees, as it’s one of the best served brewes in the city, along with some milktart. The perfect combination!
Rainbow Bakery
This is a new spot on our radar thanks to our readers! Rainbow Bakery located in Benoni is known for their Chelsea Buns, bread rolls, meat pies – and what we’re after – some of the best milktart in the East! But be sure to arrive at this bakery early to get your tart, as apparently it’s so good, stock sells out fast.

Patisserie de Paris
Located in leafy Blairgowrie, lies this little slice of Paris. Patisserie de Paris is just the spot if you’re looking to treat yourself from a range of French pastries and breads, all baked with love daily. Also, they’re known to have the best baguettes in Joburg! But, be sure to try the milktart! Grab a couple to take home with you or grab a seat and enjoy a little moment to yourself with a piece milky tart haven.
Bettina’s Café
We’ve received many votes for Bettina’s Café‘s freshly baked milktart. If you happen to find yourself at the Prison Break Market in Midrand, be sure to pop in for a little sweet treat in between strolling and shopping. There’s also a selection of other baked delights to enjoy, including Carrot Cake, scones, mocha meringue, cheesecake and more.

Spar
Okay, so if we’re honest, this one caught us off guard! Spar apparently makes some of the best milktart in the city. Always convenient and easy to get your hands on, Spar always has milktarts ready and waiting to go home with you. Pick up your tart on your next grocery shopping trip and let us know what you think.
Bembom
Bembom offers some of the best mini milktarts you’ll ever taste! Simple, sweet, delectable and perfectly paired with a cup of coffee, their mini Tarte de Leite is a creamy, cinnamon-kissed, golden crused must-savour delight you need to try. Maybe order two, as we know you’ll end up wanting more.

Croydon Bakery
There were plenty of votes for Croydon Bakery at Croyzan Shopping Centre in Kempton Park! It’s quite clear that they are popular for their famous Croydon Bakery Milk Tart! And if you’re craving cheesecake, be sure to order some of that too. They were voted as the second best cheesecake in the city by 94.7’s Best Cheesecake award.
Pantry by Marble
Apparently, the most decadent (yet not traditional) milktart is served by The Pantry by Marble. We remember when they introduced their Milktart Donuts. Those were absolutely divine! So, if you need some gourmet goodies on the go, this is the perfect place to make a stop ‘n shop.

The Whippet
And then last but most certainly not least, our readers also nominated The Whippet as to serving some of the best milktart in the city. We would have to agree! Also, their coffee is top notch, too. So, stop by and have a lovely brekiie, brunch, or lunch and be sure to try out their milktart. You’ll definitely be back for more.
