Spring is here and with the lovely sunny season comes one of our favourite outdoor activities. Strawberry picking is an annual treat, offering bounties of juicy, ripe fruit. But you don't need to travel outside of the city to enjoy an afternoon out in the strawberry fields. Mac Fresh Farm and Deli in Benoni offers year-round berry picking. The farm is a great spot to enjoy a fun, family day out as well. Bring your little ones along this spring to pick the juiciest fruit they can find. Here's a bit more about how the picking process works.
Pick Some Fresh Strawberries
Mac Fresh Farm grows both strawberries and blueberries. You can harvest as much as you like (or as much is available). Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and you will need to sanitise your hands and shoes before entering the tunnels.
The farm supplies the necessary tools to remove the ripe fruit from the berry bushes, too. Once you've made your way through the tunnels, you'll have your buckets weighed and priced.
All ages are welcome to spend the pay picking some sweet and juicy strawberries! Entrance is FREE, you'll just have to pay for what you pick during your visit. Their weigh-and-pay station can be found inside the Deli, so you can harvest as much as you like. The farm is open for picking from Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00.
The on-site deli shop will assist you with packaging and final purchase of your berries. You can then munch on your harvest on the way home or make a delicious berry preserve to enjoy at the breakfast table. Also, this destination is pet-friendly!

The Mac Fresh Deli is a sweet pitstop after picking your berries. Here, you can pick up a few jams and sweet delights to remember your trip to Mac Fresh Farm.
The Mac Fresh Farm deli stocks a variety of savoury goodies, too. Get your hands on some of their divine cheeses, quiches, sauces, and farm style butter. They've got everything you could possibly need to create the perfect springtime picnic spread. Follow their Instagram page to keep up to date new products and specials.
During the summer months, the deli is open from Wednesday to Sunday between 08:00 - 15:00. Berry picking takes place on Saturdays from 08:00 to 16:00 and on Sundays from 08:00 - 15:00.
