Kaylee's Eatery

Kaylee's Eatery in Bedfordview is a verified vegetarian and vegan haven. Serving up all plant-based meals, Kaylee's is the perfect place to embrace the Paleo lifestyle. Try out their Caesar Power Bowl for super veggie goodness. Featuring a medley of cos lettuce, rocket, homemade raw Caesar dressing, vegan bacon, capers, avo, croutons and cashew Parmesan. While the croutons aren't strictly Paleo, they do give the dish a lovely salty crunch. But, Kaylee's will gladly exclude them for you if need be.

The Red Door Cafe

The Red Door Cafe is one of the Edenvale Avenue's many hidden coffee and cake gems. However, they are also surprisingly one of the finest Paleo hot spots in the East Rand. Their Paleo menu is adapted weekly, according to seasonal ingredients and customer reviews. But, there are a few staples which will have you singing with simple food joy. Give The Red Door's Paleo Benedict a sample next time you find yourself hunting for brunch in the Vale, two poached eggs, bacon and rocket are served on sweet hash browns with Hollandaise sauce.

Lexi's Healthy Eatery 

Since June 2018, Lexi's Healthy Eatery have been bringing their plant-based mission to Sandton. They do, however, offer responsibly-caught salmon on their menu, so you can fill up on your required protein. Paleo choices on Lexi's menu include warm and cold bowls, as well as a scrumptious seared salmon main, served with roasted sweet potatoes, cauliflower rice, pine nuts, cranberries, leeks and dark wilted greens. That's your five-a-day and wholesome protein with limited carbs, all in one meal!

Sprout Cafe

Sprout Cafe at Stoneridge Mall is the king of Paleo fast food. That's right, get yourself a hearty, yet simple fresh food meal from this health-crazed cafe. The best feature of their menu is the Build Your Own Salad option. This way, you have full control over what goes into your takeaway lunch. We like the idea of rosa tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, salmon, sesame sprinkle and micro herbs drizzled with lemon. It's wholesome and satisfying! Sprout Cafe are also famed for their pressed juices and protein drinks. The carrot, pineapple and ginger is our favourite, but try them all if you can.

Free Food in Birnam takes raw eating to a whole new level. All their dishes are strictly plant-based and cruelty-free, so while you enjoy your Paleo delights you can eat well knowing that you are being kind to the earth and its creatures. Leafy Greens

The ethos of Leafy Greens is based on a similar ancient principle to the Paleo diet; "eat real food, mostly plants, and not too much". With this in mind, their summer 2019 menu reflects the growing desire for fresh, seasonal and nutritious plant-based dining. Paleo options include a breakfast fruit salad of seasonal cut fruit served with pineapple cream; organic kale salad with maple chipotle cashew dressing, sliced carrots, red pepper and organic hemp seeds; and plant-based sushi with avocado, carrots, cucumber, vegetable fillings and house-made traditional dipping sauces!

The Greenside Cafe

The Greenside Cafe has been lovingly preparing vegan, vegetarian and Paleo dishes for 10 years. This much-loved cafe in eclectic Greenside offers Paleo dieters something truly unique - raw wraps! Try their wacky yet tasty apple and banana raw wrap, filled with spiralised sweet potato, cucumber, avo, tomato, macadamia mayo and pesto! Or, if you are a little less daring, opt for the wrap made from bell peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, avocados and apples, filled with spinach, carrot, mushroom, tomato, olives and cashew cream, seasoned with black pepper. These raw wraps may seem a little out there but don't knock it until you have tried it.

Lemoni is a quaint, new cafe located in Bedfordview. Blending Mediterranean and Greek cuisine influences, this family-style eatery has a great salad selection on their menu. Paleo eaters will be totally satisfied by their Greek Salad with extra tuna. Simply omit the feta cheese and you will be well on your way to Paleo perfection. The servings here are generous and well worth their money for value. Plus, the outdoor seating is ideal for a relaxed lunch with friends. Surrounded by plant-life, this restaurant garden is well worth visiting just for the peace and separation from busy city life.
