Hanging Out At Lexi’s Healthy Eatery

Document

With their sights set on getting people to eat more veggies, Lexi’s Healthy Eatery in Sandton has barely opened their doors, and everyone is already falling in love with them. Here’s what the fuss is all about.

Often our taste buds aren’t aligned with our healthy eating intentions. We kid ourselves that nutritious equals bland and boring, which is exactly why Lexi’s Healthy Eatery has been booming since they day they opened their doors in June 2018. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, banting, paleo or just trying to make small healthier choices everyday, this little eatery has you covered.

Lexi’s Eatery is the brainchild of Lexi Monzeglio, a trained plant-based chef and health fanatic. Her creativity is evident when looking at the menu. For breakfast we recommend the sunshine glow bowl (seasonal citrus fruit with coconut cream, biscuit crumb and granola topped with caramel) or the farmer’s breakfast bowl (tofu scramble, grilled mushrooms, roasted potatoes, grilled cherry tomatoes and fresh avocado with a vegan hollandaise). Moving over to mains, dig into a slow-roasted cauliflower steak (served with chimichurri, lentils, and fresh mixed greens and beetroot). And the bus doesn’t stop there. Other fascinating items include the warrior burger, the smashed falafel and the black rice porcini risotto.

At the time of writing, Lexi’s Healthy Eatery has a BYOB (bring your own booze) policy until they’ve sorted out their liquor licence. But who needs alcohol when there’s red velvet and golden “mylk” lattes, vegan superfood Horlicks and an array of juices and smoothies to choose from? On top of that Lexi’s has taken a stand against plastic and introduced stainless steel straws and bio-degradable packaging to their restaurant.

All in all, Lexi’s Healthy Eatery is a rocking place to get your plant-based diet on without skimping on good taste. Meat eaters shouldn’t feel left out, however: while the menu makes little use of meat products, there is a bit of fish here and a burger there. Do yourself a favour and go check ’em out – you won’t be sorry!
