About Mika Stefano

Mika Stefano – owner of @strong_za, the coolest HIIT studio in Joburg; founder of @getstrongcoffee; and director at @getstrongpr, @getstrongmedia and @getstrongeventdecor – is a man of many trades. If he's not working a sweat and motivating his class at STRONG at Moove in Melrose Arch, he's tackling The Westcliff Stairs.

Describe your ultimate night out?

My ultimate night out is all about good company, great food, and a bit of culture - without the chaos of a late night. It starts with an early evening show at Theatre on the Square in Sandton – because there’s something magical about immersing yourself in live performance.

Then, you’ll find me at Pappas on the Square, indulging in their legendary Lamb Gyro - tender, flavourful and wrapped in just the right amount of comfort.

The best way to wrap up the night is heading home early, curling up with my fur baby and savouring a bag of Woolies Chuckles.

Where can we find the best cup of coffee?

Now, I may be a little biased, but that’s because I own STRONG Coffee – a mobile coffee bar that serves up gourmet coffee at corporate events, pop-up markets and unique experiences across Joburg.

We’ve poured coffees at everything from major conferences to a Secret Sunrise dance at the Museum of Illusions in Rosebank. One of my absolute favourite creations has to be our Iced White Mocha Lavender Latte – a perfect balance of sweet and floral with that bold espresso kick.

What is your favourite local store?

I love supporting local and Victoria Yards is one of my go-to spots for beautifully crafted, handmade gifts. The artisans there create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces and I always walk away with something special (and surprisingly affordable). I also love having fish and chips from the fish and chips shop at Victoria Yards. Such a vibe.

When it comes to fashion, I can’t resist The Space in Rosebank. Whether I need something bold, timeless, or just a little different, I always know I’ll find a statement piece that stands out.

Favourite spot for a date night?

If I were to plan a date, it wouldn’t be your typical candlelit dinner. Instead, we’d kick things off with a high-energy HIIT class at STRONG at Moove, Melrose Arch. Nothing like sweating it out together to see if he can keep up!

Then grab brunch at Paul’s in Melrose Arch – their omelettes are top-class, and their strawberry tarts are the perfect post-workout indulgence.

If the vibes are good, we’d head to Fourways Farmers Market for a smash burger, or a bubble tea in Cyrildene. Maybe a drive to Vilakazi Street for lunch.

Your favourite adrenaline-packed activity is?

I wouldn’t call myself a thrill-seeker - I’ll leave the bungee jumping and skydiving to the daredevils. But if you’re looking for an adrenaline boost without the free fall, you’ll find me at The Westcliff Stairs.

There’s something exhilarating about conquering those stairs, pushing yourself through each lap, and then being rewarded with one of the best panoramic views of Joburg. It’s a workout and a scenic experience all in one.

Where is a must-visit place for a first-timer?

If you’re in Joburg for the first time and want to experience flavours that won’t disappoint, you must eat at The Schwarma Co in Norwood. It’s an institution – freshly grilled meats, flavourful sides and options for just about every dietary preference.

For a true local shopping experience, I always recommend The Oriental Plaza. It’s a sensory overload in the best way possible - vibrant fabrics, unique homeware and, of course, the best samosas in the city.

Do you have any weekend traditions?

Sundays have a rhythm of their own. My day kicks off with my 8:30 AM class at STRONG – leading a room full of motivated people, pushing limits, and ending with that unbeatable post-workout high.

After class, I grab coffee with friends and members in Melrose Arch. If I need to recharge, you’ll find me at Kai Thai in Parkhurst or In Touch Therapy in Norwood for a much-needed massage.
