Gourmet popcorn and slushie shop Maverick and Jane has expanded their offering. This time, the proponent of all things sweet brings us their very own range of premium gelatos.
Some of the flavours on offer will be ‘Pecan Boo,’ a gelato made from white couverture chocolate, caramelised pecan nuts and coffee fudge sauce. There is also the ‘Baklava’, and true to its namesake, it’s made with layers of phyllo pastry, walnuts, and fragrant spices as well as ‘Gianduja’, pronounced as ‘Jhun-du-ya’, made with chocolate and hazelnut, and is best described as the Nutella of gelato.

The launch of the gelato chapter included limited edition gelato pairings such as ‘The Gelato Cheese Board,’ a cream cheese gelato with an orange marmalade and a cranberry balsamic reduction, fresh walnuts and dried cranberries enjoyed atop a salty cracker.
There was also the ‘Nacho Average Gelato’ made with fresh avocado gelato and topped with tomato coulis, sour cream, corn tortilla chips and a sprinkle of smoked paprika. The limited-edition pairings were initially planned for special taste occasions, however customers are demanding its inclusion on the main menu.
Maverick and Jane first rose to prominence with their gourmet popcorn range made with fine Nebraskan corn, conjured in extraordinary flavours. The brand initially imported corn from Nebraska, however in the last two years have collaborated with local farmers to grow the premium kernels in South Africa. If their gourmet popcorn is anything to go by, Maverick and Jane’s gelato chapter is set to redefine how frozen desserts are enjoyed in South Africa!
