A week after lockdown was implemented, The Centre for the Less Good Idea was due to host their Season 7 showcase. Instead, their impeccably decisive reaction to move towards online streaming broke ground for many other theatre and arts venues to follow suit. The Centre presented their Season 7 lineup fully online via Facebook Live and their website. You can still watch a few of the season's shows if you haven't caught up yet. However, the Centre's focus this winter season will be the 'Unprecedented Times' exhibition, curated by Thomas D. Trummer with the Kunsthaus Bregenz gallery in Austria. The Centre will exhibit a number of works from their 'The Long Minute' series - a collection of online videos shared by the Centre on social media and curated by Bronwyn Lace over the last few months. The virtual exhibition opens on Friday, 5 June 2020 and you will be able to access it via the Kunsthaus Bregenz galleries' website. Follow The Centre for the Less Good Idea on Facebook for more daily online content from the 'Long Minute' series. Joburg City Theatres have been shut since mid-March in compliance with lockdown regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, you can still get your fill of classical ballet, opera, comedy and musical extravagance online via their websites and YouTube channel. Over the past few weeks, Joburg City Theatres have dug deep into their archives to find the best recordings of their most popular shows. Watch Verdi's La Traviata, Janice Honeyman's Snow White Pantomime and the National School of the Arts production of Gibson Kente's Too Late, from the safety of your home this winter. If all things go according to plan, Joburg Theatre expects to reopen in August for the South African season of William Kentridge's The Head and The Load. This highly-anticipated production was scheduled to open in May 2020, but has since been postponed to early August. Dates: Thursday, 6 August 2020 - Friday, 14 August 2020. Visit Webtickets for more information on ticket availability and show times.
