Dog-friendly parks in Joburg East

Joburg Admin / August 9, 2022

Gillooly's Farm

Gillooly's Farm is situated in the Bedfordview area. Bring your four-legged friends along for a stroll around the park. Entrance is free and the park is open seven days a week from 07:00 - 19:00. There is ample space for your pooch to sniff and explore here. But beware, the park is home to a feisty flock of ducks. If you are weary about walking around the park on your own, join the weekly ParkRun event. There are hundreds of runners and walkers that participate; many of whom bring their dogs along with them. It's a great way for you and your pet to get in some exercise and fresh air. We hope to see you there!

Address: 47 Boeing W Rd, Bedfordview, Johannesburg.

Huddle Park

Huddle Park is one of our favourite dog-friendly parks on the east side of Joburg. The meandering trails here will have you feeling like you've escaped the mad rush of the city. Be sure to keep a look out for other walkers and cyclists as the paths intersect to create a sense of connection and harmony. You can take a short 1.6km walk or a more challenging 5km trek. Don't forget to bring water along your walk to keep yourself and your furry friend hydrated. Entrance to the trails costs R50 per adult for a day pass. You can also sign up for a yearly membership so you'll always have a safe space to take your dog for a walk. Click here to find out more about Huddle Park's membership offerings.

Address: Club Street, Closest corner Shelley Avenue, Linksfield, Johannesburg.

Chaucer Park

Just a hop and a skip from Huddle Park is its unassuming cousin. Chaucer Park is situated in the leafy Senderwood suburb. This dog-friendly park is free to enter and offers pets ample space to run and play. The park is divided into spaces for small and large dogs. It is well fenced off as well, offering you the ultimate peace of mind that your precious pet will remain safe. There is also a kiddies play area, so the whole family can come along for a day out at the park. Visit this little slice of heaven as soon as you can.

Address: Chaucer Avenue, Senderwood, Bedfordview.

Horwood's Farm

For those of us who grew up in the east, Horwood's Farm holds many special memories. Bring your beloved pet here to create new memories and have a great time out in the sunshine. The park plays host to the monthly Horwood's Farm Family Market which sees socialised dogs of all breeds, and their owners, come out to have a roll in the mud (if it's been raining) or to simply enjoy the lush outdoors. Follow the market on Facebook to find their next event or simply pop on over to Horwood's Farm when next you can.

Address: 1 Homestead Rd, Edenvale, Johannesburg.

Benoni Dog Park

Not all dogs can be socialised or leash-trained. Benoni Dog Park acknowledges this and welcomes you and your pet to book a private session at their wonderful outdoor space. Dog owners can book out the park for an hour, allowing their dog to run off leash without worry of any unplanned encounters. The park will be solely yours and your dog's for that hour. There is a ton of open space for you to play with your dog or to take a leisurely stroll. There are also splash pools situated around the park for those balmy summer days. Treat your best friend to playtime in the park by booking a slot at Benoni Dog Park. Contact them on 079 806 4960.

Address: 82 Leopard Rd, Benoni, Johannesburg.
