Denis Vaden of State 5 coffee Roastery in Greenside is the self-proclaimed king of cold brewed coffee. Denis has worked himself up from the bottom and it's been his life's goal to find the perfect cup of coffee. State 5 imports its beans from South America and North-West Africa and roast the beans in their Joburg store.
Doubleshot
Braamfontein is the melting pot of Joburg: commuters, businessmen and students flank the busy streets. The gears of this neighbourhood is oiled by the coffee roasted at Doubleshot, on the corner of Juta and Melle. The family-run business constantly roasts its own beans and the roasters enjoy experimenting with different blends. They also conjure up a mean pot of tea, which should be mentioned of course.
Bean There
The leaders of Fairtrade coffee in the city is the Bean There Coffee Company. The roasters invests heavily in Ethiopian coffee farms. This coffee company has three roasteries across the country: two in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town. Bean There’s Ethiopia roast boasts a floral aroma with a round acidity and citrus overtones, and has proven to be there best seller.
Urban Grind
It's all about the journey towards the best cup of java. That's how Urban Grind sees their method of roasting the finest arabica in Joburg. The Parkhurst coffee roasters train some of the best baristas in the country and welcome people to come in, sit down and enjoy their brews for free - as long as you lend an ear to the roasters as they tell you all about their passion for coffee.
