New Doggies in Honeydew delivers all the traditional Deutche food and drink you'll love. Be sure to make a date with their Eisbein, which goes for only R79. This is a great spot to watch rugby!
Die Kneipe German Pub
Die Kneipe German Pub in Kensington is all about hearty food, flowing drinks, and giving you the best authentic German pub experience. They're open for events and functions, and regularly host ladies nights and live music.

Norberts German Butchery and Deli
Good old German cuisine is the order of the day when you visit
Norbert's. Their restaurant offers a wide variety of decent-portion breakfasts, lunches and take-away meals that have their clients returning time after time. Favourites include their pork schnitzel served with potato salad.
Norbert came to South Africa in 1984 from a little village called Hirzweiler in Germany. The butchery was originally located in Kensington, JHB for 36 years, after which we relocated to Wilropark, Roodepoort in 2009. Norbert’s is a family run butchery and they don't see our clientele as “customers”, but part of the family.
Schwaben Butchery, Edenvale
Schwaben is the home of traditional German food. It was first opened in 1986, and was situated in Van Buuren Road, Bedfordview. Over the years it grew and moved to their present shop in Meadowdale Value City, just off the R24 offramp to Edenvale.
The new shop expanded on the production side off all the cold meats, fresh meats, imported cheeses, delicatessen and the restaurant. Schwaben also has a coffee bar with assorted coffees and German cakes. Their staff are friendly and there to make your selection of quality meats and products a pleasure.
Festivals
Johannesburg abounds with German beer festivals -probably because we're a beer loving sort and we have the weather to hold it outdoors. Mostly held in October to coincide with Octoberfest in Germany, you'll be able to glug down beer by the gallon while wolfing down delicious German food.
The most famous includes the
German School Bierfest and The German Countryclub Oktoberfest. These have largely been postponed due to Covid in the last two years, but we're hoping they'll be back in 2022.
