#StayHomeChallenge: Viral Internet Challenges To Keep You Entertained

Joburg Admin / March 25, 2020

Dalgona Coffee Challenge

Coffee trends come and go, but this one seems likely to be around for awhile as we're all becoming our own baristas at home. Try your hand at making dalgona coffee while in lockdown - it's a deliciously frothy coffee made using instant coffee, water and sugar. With a sweet honeycomb flavour, this may just become your go-to morning elixir. And if you're looking for more awesome coffee-inspired recipes to recreate at home, check this out. Draw Something Challenge

Lockdown has inspired people around the world to get more creative. If you haven't done something creative in lockdown yet, get out your drawing pencils and join the #DrawSomethingChallenge. Whether it's a doodle or an intricate sketch, the point is to up your drawing skills and take your mind off of the global pandemic going on outside. For example, Harry Potter fans have been drawing up a storm since lockdown began, posting their sketches daily and engaging in online conversation about their favourite characters. If your artistic skills leave much to be desired, enroll in an online art course to brush up on your art history knowledge and technique. Safe Hands

Aside from social distancing, frequently washing your hands for 20 seconds or longer is one of the best preventative measures against contracting COVID-19. As such, videos teaching people the correct way to wash their hands are dominating social media platforms. From the hand washing dance challenge in Vietnam, to an array of celebrities doing their part to educate the world about good hygiene, hand washing is the viral trick of the moment. Why not create your own #SafeHands video to share with family and friends? [embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/B-A3PkSDOoU/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link[/embed]

Toilet Roll Footie

Sporting events have been cancelled world over and while avid fans are disappointed, most understand the need to promote social distancing to flatten the curve and hopefully eradicate COVID-19. In response, many football fans have taken to the web to showcase their own fine foot skills using toilet paper rolls, plastic cups and other household items. The aim of the game is to see how long you can keep the makeshift ball off the floor, how many toe taps you can do in 20 seconds or how many cups you can dunk into a trash bin in a minute. Join in on the fun when isolation boredom starts to kick in (no pun intended). [embed]https://twitter.com/Ewinnetwork1/status/1241294387679834112?s=20[/embed]

At-Home Workouts

Missing your daily gym workout? No sweat. There are tons of ways to incorporate exercise into your daily routine at home, whether you stream an at-home HIIT video or practice some calming yoga out in your garden. You can also make chores a whole lot more exciting by turning your cleaning routine into a workout challenge. You won't need any extra equipment for these kinds of exercises either, as the idea is to use your own body weight and strength to build and tone muscle. [embed]https://youtu.be/acIjB9Bww5o[/embed]

Get The Pets Involved

Now's the perfect time to adorn your pets with extra love and spoils, especially since we can't show much physical affection to our human loved ones at the moment. Cuddling your pet has been proven to reduce anxiety and is a great way to keep calm while under quarantine. You can also get your pets involved in making fun videos. Looking for inspiration? Check out HamStarz on TikTok for pure unadulterated cuteness and sound advice on ways to prevent spreading COVID-19, or follow Doug The Pug on Instagram for daily content. What's In Your Fridge?

Being under lockdown is the perfect excuse to work on your cooking skills. Now is also a time when no one will really judge you for posting daily pictures of your food. Join the #What'sInYourFridge challenge with chef David Higgs and his crew of food experts to come up with delicious meals using whatever it is you have left in store. Alternatively, you can join our very own challenge at Joburg.co.za by using the very last of your pantry staples to make one of three tasty dishes. Don't know your toaster from your waffle iron? Join Yuppiechef's online cooking school tutorials presented by some of SA's most well-known celebrity chefs, including Sarah Graham and Pete Goffe-Wood. Quarantine Book Club

Minister of Sport and Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa has reached out to South Africans, encouraging them to join the #QuarantineBookClub challenge. All you have to do is post a picture of the book you are reading while under lockdown with the hashtag #QuarantineBookClub. The purpose of this challenge is to get people reading for entertainment, inspiration and knowledge during this difficult period. You may want to start your own online book club with friends too until you are able to meet up for coffee and a quick chat again. Not sure where to begin? Check out our list of new book releases to get stuck into this winter.
