Shopping Centres With Kids’ Entertainment

The winter school holidays are around the corner, which could mean very bored children and stressed-out parents. Fear not! We’ve rounded up a list of events happening in malls around the city that will keep them – and you – happy.

Kids Club at Killarney Mall

If you’re in or around Killarney, then this is the only place you and your child need to head to come the July holidays. For a once-off R80 membership fee, your sprog will have access to the best entertainment. We’re talking a multitude of activities, fun crafts and special movie and restaurant discounts. Once you sign them up, they will also get a cool welcome pack and birthday vouchers.

Ice rink at Northgate

This has to be the coolest (yes, we just did that) thing to do this midyear break. Organise for a few friends to join your kid, so that they have a super-fun time skating round the rink while listening to the music and having a laugh or two. There are two sessions to choose from: the day, from 10:00 to 17:00, and the night, from 19:30 to 22:30. Entrance fee is R75 and blades are R35

Art and minions at Cedar Square

Though these two events don’t fall during the holidays, they’re too special not to share. If your little one loves to draw and paint and be creative, then head to Ava-Lee Design & Décor for their two painting classes: Daddy & Me art class on 17 June and Mommy & Me art class on 24 June. You’ll both get to dabble with paint and paintbrushes to create unique pieces of work for your home.

And on 24 June, from 16:00 to 17:30, get to the Khaliques Court early (you want to get the best seat in the house!) to meet Mel and Gru from Despicable Me 3. If your child adores minions, then there’s no way you could ever miss this.

Talent show, minions and face-painting at Cradlestone

If your kid is a mega Despicable Me fan, make sure you take them to Cradlestone on Saturday, 24 June from 10:00 to 12:00 to meet Mel the minion and Gru for the new movie, Despicable Me 3.

Cradlestone is also looking for local talent. So, if your sprog has what it takes – be it singing, playing a musical instrument – let them showcase their talent on stage. It’s open to all ages and is on every Saturday.

And on every weekend, there will be face painters and balloon sculptors roaming the mall, ready to make your child’s day with a butterfly or Spiderman face painting and an animal balloon.

Bounce at Waterfall Lifestyle Centre

Get your little one to burn all their pent-up energy at Bounce. The massive indoor trampoline park boasts more than 100 interconnected trampolines, giant air bags, slam-dunk arenas, wall running and dodgeball courts. Expect a lot of excitement, jumping up and down, adrenaline and rosy cheeks – but they will seriously have the time of their life at this uber-cool jumping park.
