Paul's Home Made Ice Cream
PHMIC has become an ice cream staple for Joburg residents. With multitudes of flavours, freshly made batches and quality ingredients, we can see why. But did you know that Paul's also offers vegan ice cream? Vegan flavours include Caralishious Vanilla Cinnamon, Caralishious Peanut Butter, Caralishious Toasted Coconut, Caralishious Cocoa and Strawberry. Of these flavours, we have only been fortunate enough to try two, the deep dark chocolate and the tantalising strawberry - which is one of the best ice creams we've ever had.

Tofutti
Tofutti offers a selection of dairy-free imitation products like cheese, sour cream and frozen desserts. Although based overseas, these products are stocked at several Joburg retailers including Food Lover's Market, Dis-chem and select Spar outlets. Vanilla Fudge, Wild Berry Supreme, Crisp Crunch Bars, Mint Laced With Belgium Chocolate, Ice Cream Sandwiches, Vanilla, Vanilla Almond and Coffee Marshmallow Swirl are just some of the divine flavours to try.

Frooz
Frooz offers delicious frozen treats that are vegan, contain no dairy, eggs, wheat, gluten or added sugar. All of their products are made from local fruit and vegetables. They can be found at markets across Joburg, such as the Vegan Hippie Connection Market. Our favourite flavours include banana and guava, mango, watermelon, pineapple, watermelon and strawberry, blackberry and banana and blueberry, all packaged in biodegradable containers.

Whisk Away
This Pretoria establishment offers luxury hand-crafted ice cream and sorbet for all occasions. Vegan options include regulars like coffee, rum and raisin, vanilla and strawberry. But they also have an array of unique picks like cashew and caramel, ginger, spiced chai and cookie dough. Their sorbet includes diverse finds from pink champagne and roasted pineapple and coconut to blood orange and mango and chilli sorbet.

Crumbs & Cream
This popular Rosebank hub has gained a following due to their delectable ice cream sandwich treats. The concept is quite simple, choose your cookie, pick an ice cream and drench them with your choice of toppings. The Illovo store has at least one vegan option in store everyday. Pair that with their Vegan Heaven cookie, and you've got a deliciously moreish treat that would make even the Cookie Monster envious.

Hudsons The Burger Joint
Hudsons has become the go-to for insta-worthy food that's good on the palate too. They serve up a delightful range of burgers, pizza, milkshakes and other dude-food. This includes a vegan range of yummy feel good food. And as a special treat, their dessert menu offers its own vegan ice cream - the Unframed Vegan Matcha Ice Cream served with a scattering of toasted almonds and fresh strawberries.

YOCOCO
YOCOCO are producers of vegan ice cream that is free of dairy, artificial colourants and ingredients. Their "scoops of love" are available in a range of flavours, made with local ingredients and packaged in eco-friendly packaging, to provide a wholesome ice cream experience. At the time of writing, YOCOCO had sold 1 500 ice cream tubs and 35 000 scoops of their ever popular frozen treat. Flavours include mixed berries, coffee, chocolate, cookies and cream and cranberry.
