To ensure you get to the hottest and popular shopping destinations in Gauteng, Gautrain will take you there with their affordable fares and close proximity to malls and centres. Here’s your shopping roadmap with Gautrain! Choose a Gautrain station and shop the mall that’s nearby.

Your Ticket To Retail Therapy in Joburg

The city is full of exciting and unique shopping destinations! You just need to know which retail destinations are within close proximity to each Gautrain station along the railway.

To start your shopping adventure, get your Gautrain card, plan your route, pay the fare, and off you go! Join us as we map out some of the best shopping centres and malls within walking distance from each of the Gautrain stations.

Park Station – Newtown Junction

  • Walking distance: 2km (about 20 minutes)

A mall that celebrates African culture, Newtown Junction is just the place if you’re looking enjoy a day out and about within the city and do a little retail therapy. To visit this destination, simply take a trip with Gautrain to the Park Station in Braamfontein.

This mall offers hopper over 100 different stores offering everything from groceries, footwear and clothing to banking facilities, tasty restaurants, home and decor, tech and gadgets, and more. This mall is also located close to other exciting attractions, including the Market Theatre, Oriental Plaza, Sci Bono Centre and the iconic Nelson Mandela Bridge.

Rosebank Station – The Zone @ Rosebank

  • Walking distance: 400m (a 2-minute walk)

Literally, just across the road from the Rosebank Gautrain station, you’ll find the ever-popular and unique retail centre – The Zone @ Rosebank. Rosebank Station is an underground station located beneath Oxford Road, between Baker Street and Tyrwhitt Avenue.

This destination has it all. Funky restaurants, loads of entertainment including being the first stop for the City Sightseeing bus, and shops galore. The Zone @ Rosebank boasts a wide range of stores, offering everything from fashion, homeware, gadgets and department stores to interesting dining destinations and entertainment activities.

Sandton Station – Sandton City

  • Walking distance: 600m (about a 6-minute walk)

Next on our journey along the Gautrain railway is the Sandton station. This is the flagship station of the Gautrain system, and is conveniently located near shops, banks, hotels and office complexes. One of the most popular shopping destinations in the richest square mile can be found just 5-minutes away – Sandton City.

Sandton City is known as THE place to be and be seen. And every year, they host an iconic Black Friday sale, as well as holiday season festivities. Shop a wide selection of international and local brands, visit a variety of dining spots, and explore the neighbouring Nelson Mandela Square, where you’ll find a 6m tall bronze statue of our late President, Nelson Mandela.

Malboro Station – Greenstone Shopping Centre

  • Driving distance: With the Gautrain midi-bus, 8km (13-minutes drive)

Off we go to Malboro Station, where we’ll need to hitch a bus ride to get to the closest mall in the area – Greenstone Shopping Centre in Edenvale. The mall offers a diverse selection of retail offerings, and is anchored by Checkers, Pick ‘n Pay Hyper and Woolworths.

Explore and shop at over 150 stores and restaurants, offering a wide range of delights, including retail pleasures, fun-filled entertainment, lovely and diverse dining options, as well as fun for the whole family!

Midrand Station – Mall of Africa

  • Driving distance: 3.5km (a 6-minute bus ride)

As we continue along our journey, the next stop is at Midrand Station which is located on the Old Pretoria-Johannesburg Road. For the nearest retail destination for all of your shopping needs, you’ll have to take a short bus ride to the fabulous Mall of Africa.

Mall of Africa is home to over 300 shops, many being flagship stores offering a vast array of both local and international brands. Other than the variety of store, there’s also plenty of dining options to choose and indulge from between your shopping and errands.

Centurion Station – Centurion Mall

  • Driving distance: 1.2km drive (a 4-minute drive)

We have also decided to include Pretoria’s Gautrain stations and shopping destinations if you’re looking to travel to that side! First stop, is at the Centurion station, where we’ll find Centurion Mall just a stone’s throw away.

Creating a unique indoor and outdoor shopping experience. Centurion Mall is a must-visit when you’re in the area. Here, you’ll find over 220 local and international shops, which includes names such as Woolworths, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Game, Shoprite, H&M, Cotton on, McDonald’s, Château Gâteaux, Big Blue, Starbucks, to name a few.

Hatfield Station – Menlyn Park

  • Driving distance: a 8.1 bus ride (roughly 8-minutes)

And lastly, but certainly not least, we make a stop at the Hatfield Station. And from this station, we’ll take an 8-minute bus ride to Menlyn Park for an award-winning shopping and lifestyle experience.

At Menlyn Park, shoppers can immerse themselves in a unique blend of retail stores and dining experiences. There’s also plenty of entertainment options that’s sure to delight families and visitors alike. Explore over 400 stores, teat the family to a fun-filled day out, and just enjoy what Menlyn Park has to offer.
