The Joburg Zoo Festival Of Lights is back to brighten up your holiday season! Gather the whole family and head to the Joburg Zoo for a night time stroll among an array of enchanting creatures lit up in magical colours. This dazzling spectacular will be taking place between 01 December 2023 until 07 January 2024. What Is The Festival Of Lights?

In collaboration with various City of Johannesburg entities – including Joburg City Parks and Zoo, and City Power – and , Joburg Theatre are excited to announce the eagerly awaited annual Joburg Festival of Lights at Joburg Zoo.

This year's festival guarantees an enchanting display of life-size illuminated animal characters. There will also be captivating music, mascot entertainment, a delectable variety of food, a lively children's area, and a craft beer and gin garden. The festival offers a unique opportunity for guests to embark on a tranquil journey through the zoo along a designated, brilliantly lit path, separate from the animals, amidst the mesmerising illumination of the trees.

Xoliswa Nduneni Ngema, CEO of Joburg City Theatres, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "The Festival of Lights is one of the theater's flagship events and has been curated to provide a plethora of unforgettable experiences. With exceptional performances by some of South Africa's most sought-after artists, the Joburg Zoo becomes the perfect destination this festive season. While the music takes center stage, we've ensured that families of all ages can enjoy a diverse range of activities, such as kiddie rides, mascot entertainment, a Beer and Gin Garden, the Tree of Light picnic, and illuminated life-size animal characters, ensuring there's something for everyone."

Visitors are encouraged to bring their picnic blankets and camping chairs (please note that alcohol is strictly prohibited), creating an ideal setting for an evening under the stars. A variety of food stalls will be available, including the Stages restaurant, offering a range of soft drinks, wine, beer, and cocktails.

When Is It?

The Festival of Lights is scheduled to run from 01 December 2023 to 07 January 2024.

*Open daily from 19:00 to 22:00 (except on Mondays).

Joburg Zoo, Jan Smuts Ave and Upper Park Drive, Parkview, Randburg, Johannesburg.

How Much Is It?

Ticket prices are as follows:

  • R175 per adult
  • R100 per pensioner
  • R75 per child aged between 3 to 12 years
  • Children under the age of 3 may enter for FREE
  • Package discounts available
