‘Tis the season to be shopping, feasting, carolling and spending time with your loved ones. And to get things rolling, here’s a list of Christmas markets happening all over Jozi. They’re in date order so you don’t miss out. Happy holidays!

Christmas markets

Christmas Craft Market at Salivate

  • Date: Saturday, 09 November 2019 from 09:00 – 16:00.
  • Venue: Salivate, 214 Weltevreden Road, Northcliff, Randburg, Johannesburg.

Gather all your loved ones and head to Salivate in Randburg as they host their Handmade Crafts Christmas Market at their beautiful venue under the Jacaranda trees. This is just the place if you’re looking to enjoy the summer sunshine, do a little shopping and get into the festive spirit.

Field Market Christmas Edition

  • Date: Saturday, 09 November 2019 AND Saturday, 07 December 2019 from 10:00 – 15:00.
  • Venue: Field Market, corner Louise Avenue and 14th Street, Parkmore, Johannesburg.

For the last TWO Field Markets of 2019, the Christmas Edition Vol 1 and Christmas Edition Vol 2 are here to bring you plenty of festive joy. Take a stroll underneath the trees to browse through curated stalls featuring quality, locally handcrafted items and deli products. And to delight your taste buds, enjoy a wide variety of gourmet food and craft drinks, plus there will be live music. The kids can run wild at the large free play area and enjoy the various Elf on the Shelve fun. Your four-legged companions are more than welcome to join in as long as they’re on a leash. Entry is FREE and parking is R10 per car. All the parking proceeds will be donated to Friends of the Field & Study for the upkeep and improvement of the park.

Irene’s Christmas Markets

  • Date: 09, 16, 24, 30 November 2019 and 07, 14, 16 December 2019 from 08:00 – 13:30 daily.
  • Venue: Irene Village Market, 07 Nelson Road, Centurion, Pretoria.

If you’re heading to Pretoria over the festive season, be sure not to miss out on their Christmas Markets popping up every Saturday until 14 December (there’ll be another on Reconciliation Day on 16 December). Here, you can get all of your Christmas shopping done and dusted at more than 100 South African handmade arts and craft stalls while enjoying nature with your family. And if you’re feeling peckish, there’ll also be good food from the deli, as well as refreshing craft beer and live music for your entertainment.

St David’s Christmas Market

  • Date: Sunday, 10 November 2019 from 09:00 – 14:00.
  • Venue: St David’s Marist Inanda, 36 Rivonia Road, Sandton, Johannesburg.

It’s time to get into the festive spirit! And to kick off the celebrations, St David’s will be hosting its eighth annual Christmas Market early this November. Enjoy a day of Christmas cheer and shopping, scrumptious food, refreshing drinks and festive entertainment that’ll delight the whole family. Browse through more than 100 craft stalls, giving you many gift ideas for the special people in your life. This Christmas Market is held in support of the many people in our community who derive or supplement their income from crafting and from small niche businesses and also supports a number of charities and community organisation who are represented at the market. So, gather your loved ones and enjoy the morning with St David’s Marist Inanda as they kick start the Christmas season on a jolly note.

Bryanston Organic & Natural Market — Moonlight Markets

  • Date: Every Tuesday night from 19 November 2019 to 17 December 2019 from 17:00 – 21:00.
  • Venue: 40 Culross Road (off Main Road), Bryanston, Johannesburg.

Just in time for the festive season, Bryanston Organic & Natural Market will once again be hosting their stunning Moonlight Markets this November through to December. Lit up by the sparkles of festive
lights, the cosy and festive markets are perfect for the entire family, offering wholesome entertainment full of excitement, wonder and the joys of the holiday season. There is an entrance fee of R20 per adult with children under 12 entering for free at the door.

This year, a Children’s Theatre will be taking centre stage with a Jesting Juggler, a charming Puppet Show, Carols by Candlelight and Sergio’s Magic Show to captivate and enchant the little ones. And the grown-ups will be entertained by a selection of buskers roaming through the market as well as live music in the tea garden throughout the evening. The market is transformed into a joyful and magical experience.

Need some Christmas gift ideas? Stroll through the various stalls offering a wide range of hand-crafted gifts, decorations and festive foods. And there’ll also be plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained, including candle making, fairy crafting, wooden toy painting, T-Shirt painting, bead & wire crafting, face painting and the creation of an advent garden. Tokens for the various kiddies activities can be obtained at the entrance.

Italian Club Johannesburg Christmas Market

  • Date: Thursday, 21 November 2019 and Friday, 22 November 2019 from 15:00 to 21:00.
  • Venue: Italian Club Johannesburg, 07 Marais Road, Bedfordview, Johannesburg.

The annual Italian Club Johannesburg Christmas Market is going to be a festive celebration you don’t want to miss! They’re going to have an amazing selection of creative stalls, delicious delights and drinks from various food trucks and bars, plenty of kids activities to keep the children entertained as well as live entertainment to set the mood! Grab the family and enjoy a beautiful night under the stars! There’s a R10 entry fee and kids get in for free.

The Joburg Vintage & Artisanal Market — Christmas Market

  • Date: Sunday, 24 November 2019 to Monday, 25 November 2019 from 09:00 to 15:00.
  • Venue: 38 Oxford Road, Parktown, Johannesburg.

The Joburg Vintage and Artisanal Market will be hosting a Christmas Market. In this fast-food, fast-fashion and fast-paced world, we want more time to appreciate the old, the vintage, the slower side of life, and support the creative crafters who also enjoy taking their time to create their items. This silly season, why not meander through the 50 hand-selected stalls offering vintage clothing, antiques and collectibles, and loads of artisanal products? And to keep you fueled for your Christmas shopping excursion, there’ll be delicious food and drinks on offer! Entry is R10 per person. 

The Parkview Charity Christmas Market

  • Date: Friday, 29 November 2019 – Sunday, 01 December 2019.
  • Venue: George Hay Park, corner Waterford Avenue And Lurgan Road, Parkview, Johannesburg.

The Parkview Charity Christmas Market brings you a Christmas-themed event perfect for all ages with all the bells and whistles. There will be around 90 stalls jam-packed with Christmas stocking fillers, jewellery, leather goods, wooden crafts, paintings and pottery. Foodie delights include a bubbly and oyster bar and a trendy gin bar, and there will also be supervised kiddies entertainment, as well as live music. The market will be contributing to a worthy cause — 20% of everything you spend goes to their list of charities. There will be an entry fee and a pensioners’ rate. Children under the age of 12 enter for FREE. (Fees TBC).

Lindenpark Christmas Night Market

  • Date: Friday, 29 November 2019 from 17:30 – 21:00.
  • Venue: NG Kerk Lindenpark, corner Central and Bram Fisher Road, Linden, Johannesburg.

Christmas is around the corner which means we need to get cracking on the planning, shopping, wrapping and festive cheer! What better way to do that than by heading to the Lindenpark Christmas Night Market? Round up your loved ones and join the fun while getting started on some early Christmas shopping. Tuck into delicious food, enjoy the live music and let the little ones have some fun on a kiddies train ride.

Garden Of Lights

  • Date: Friday, 29 November 2019 to Sunday, 05 January 2020.
  • Venue: Emperors Palace, 64 Jones Road, Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

If you’re heading to Emperors Palace this festive season, make sure you don’t miss this year’s edition of the Garden of Lights. It’s an epic celebration of all things Christmas — a winter wonderland, light extravaganza and festive adventure all rolled into one exciting outing. Packed with fun activities for the whole family, everyone will be spellbound and inspired to mingle and jingle in the picturesque gardens of the D’oreale Grande Hotel, Emperors Palace. You’ll also get to meet all your favourite festive characters – The Christmas Elves, Mr. Snowman, The Enchanted Princess, The Festive Fairy and The Candyman! The gardens will be open daily from 19:00 to 22:00 depending on the weather and the entrance fee is R25 per person. Or you can get your hands on the Festive Family Package at R100 for a family of five. All proceeds go charity.

The Linden Market Christmas Edition

  • Date: Saturday, 30 November 2019 and Sunday, 01 December 2019 from 09:00 – 16:00 daily.
  • Venue: Emmarentia Botanical Gardens, 45 Thomas Bowler Street, Emmarentia, Johannesburg.

Before the Christmas frenzy begins, visit The Linden Market’s Christmas Edition to get started on your shopping. This festive-must will span over TWO DAYS in the heart of Emmarentia Botanical Gardens. Expect everything from stunning market stalls to Santa in the Garden, sweet pooches and live music entertainment and much more. It’s an absolute must visit for the whole family, including your four-legged companions. Other than all the exciting festivities, you definitely shop up a storm here as you’ll find plenty of treasures such as vintage designer clothing, antiques, jewellery and accessories, as well as fresh flowers and organic skincare products. And on the culinary side, there will be lots of gourmet food, craft beer, bubbly and wine. Gates open at 09:00. Entrance is R30 per person. Parking is R20 per car.

Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens Christmas Carols & Market

  • Date: Friday, 29 November 2019 to Saturday, 30 November 2019 from 18:00 – 22:00.
  • Venue: Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens, Malcolm Road, Roodepoort, Johannesburg.

The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens will be hosting their Christmas Carols Under The Stars & Christmas Market to kick off the holiday season’s festivities. On Friday, they will be starting their celebrations with Carols Under The Stars and the Christmas Market will start at 09:00 on Saturday morning. Expect a variety of arts, crafts, food and unique gifts for all the special people in your life. Sing along to favourite carols such as Silent Night, Jingle Bells and much more. There will also be kiddies entertainment, arts and crafts, and much much more.

Country Pub’s Annual Christmas Market

  • Date: Sunday, 01 December 2019 from 11:00 – 16:00.
  • Venue: Country Market at Country Pub, 35 Cedar Road, Corner Main and Cedar Roads, Midrand, Johannesburg.

The highly anticipated annual Christmas Market at the Country Pub in Kyalami is back with yet another jolly edition offering the perfect combination of fun, entertainment and shopping. Enjoy a lovely day out and about in the countryside admiring the Christmas gifts and themed stalls, plus there’s a feel-good factor because you’ll be supporting local vendors, artisans and crafters. A kiddie play area will keep the little ones occupied and dogs on leash are welcome. Also, Santa will be visiting all the way from the North Pole. Entrance is free and there’s free parking.

The Wanderers Christmas Market

  • Date: Sunday, 01 December 2019 and Sunday, 08 December 2019 from 09:00 – 19:00 daily.
  • Venue: The Wanderers Club, 21 North Street, Illovo, Johannesburg.

Support local small businesses by doing your Christmas shopping conveniently at the fourth annual Wanderers Christmas Market. Running for eight days, free parking will be available and as for the little ones, a playroom will keep them entertained while you shop. Stay a while and enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, a cup of coffee or a beer at the Wanderers Club restaurant.

KAMERS/Makers 2019 Irene

  • Date: Tuesday, 03 December 2019 to Sunday, 08 December 2019 from 09:00 – 17:00 daily.
  • Venue: Cornwall Hill College, Nellmapius Drive, Irene, Pretoria.

The artisanal market we all know and love, KAMERS/Makers, will be returning to Irene, Pretoria, this December! This is the perfect opportunity to get started on all your Christmas shopping. For a celebratory end to 2019, the country’s original artisan ‘up’-market returns to Cornwall Hill College for a shopping experience like no other. Get ready for more than 200 proudly SA designers and crafters, all showcasing the coolest stuff you’ve never seen before – from fashion, food, skincare and ceramics to jewellery, lifestyle, music and much more.

Sandton City’s Christmas Village

  • Dates: Wednesday, 04 December 2019 – Monday, 09 December 2019 from 16:00 – 22:00 daily.
  • Venue: Sandton City Shopping Centre, Rivonia Road, Sandton, Johannesburg.

‘Tis the season to be shopping, feasting and jolly! And to kick off festive December on a high note, be sure not to miss out on Sandton City Shopping Centre’s Christmas Village. Expect to see twinkling fairy lights, hear cheerful Christmas music and taste the delicious cinnamon treats and Glüwein, and of course, marvel at the beautifully decorated Christmas trees to get you into the festive spirit. There will also be daily Christmas Carols at sunset, followed by an outdoor Christmas-themed family movie on the big screen.

Sylvia’s Christmas Market Under The Stars

  • Date: Saturday, 14 December 2019 from 17:00 – 22:00.
  • Venue: Sylvia’s Market, 59 Frederick Street, Observatory, Johannesburg.

Get your last-minute gifts and stocking fillers done and dusted at the Christmas Market Under The Stars, brought to you by Sylvia’s Market. Here, you can enjoy a merry setting with great food, wonderful crafts and lots of entertainment for both young and old. There will be live entertainment featuring a jazz band, up-and-coming singers and a fire dancer. And for the kids, supervised movie screenings (18:00 to 19:30 for 2 to 6 year olds; 20:00 to 21:30 for 7 to 12 year olds), carnival games galore, a special visit from Santa Claus, as well as a Bunny Hop Night Time experience. There’s a R10 entrance fee.
