There is a very limited selection of vegan restaurants in Joburg. Everyone seems to cater for the vegetarians to a certain extent but don’t seem to think about people living a vegan lifestyle. Truffles On The Park
Happiness is finding out there's a vegetarian and vegan option! Truffles on The Park is located at The Mushroom Farm Park in Sandton. Their promise to customers is to serve fresh and carefully sourced herbs and ingredients needed to make their wholesome dishes! Some of their dishes include their Truffles Park Salad and Burnt Corn and Avocado Salad to name but a few. View their website here and browse through their delicious meals.
The Fussy Vegan
Looking for some good modern vegan cuisine to tickle your taste buds, but it needs to be vegan-friendly? Then make a stop at the Fussy Vegan and try out their Crispy BBQ Tofu (crispy strips of tofu served with mixed veggies in an Asian BBQ sauce)! Or try some of their modern-style burgers, bowls, and sandwiches. The Fussy Vegan is by far one of our favourite vegan-friendly restaurants in Joburg.
The Red Chamber
For Chinese food with vegan/vegetarian alternatives, stop by the Red Chamber for something delicious (and slightly more expensive)! Their cucumber-based Tiger Salad is recommended from their menu! Feeling peckish? Then try the tasty Vegetable Spring Rolls. Or, if you are looking for a more substantial meal, see their vegetarian/vegan dishes in the Health corner of their menu. Order Braised Tofu with Chinese Shiitake Mushroom!

Tasha's offers you a nice selection of vegan/vegetarian dishes. To start off your day with a healthy breakfast, why not try the Granny Smith (rolled oats, pumpkin seeds, dried banana, dried mango, dried apple and shredded coconut soaked in apple juice topped with yoghurt [leave this out to make it vegan] and fresh grated apple)? Or order the Wild Mushroom Pasta (wild mushrooms with parsley, garlic, lemon ... just ask them to leave out the parmesan shavings) for lunch?
Fresh Earth
Whether you are looking for a shop to do a little grocery shopping for organic foods or to have a relaxing stop at a healthy café for a bite to eat, head down to Fresh Earth Food Store! Fresh Earth Café will whip up some healthy vegetarian and vegan delights which cater to your dietary requirements, from wheat/gluten intolerances to hypoglycaemia. The Chickpea Avo Wrap sounds like a winner – chickpea stew, avocado, fresh lettuce, spring onion and coriander!
Col’ Cacchio
From pizza to pasta, there is sure to be a good selection of vegetarian/vegan options available at Col’Cacchio’s! The Ortigiano pizza topped with olives, artichokes, asparagus, green peppers and mushrooms sounds like an interesting mix. And, if you want pasta, why not try the Fresca – roasted vegetables, rocket, sundried tomato and pine nuts? Or how about their Leggero pizza with; mushrooms, balsamic roasted cherry tomatoes, herbs & garlic.
Leafy Greens Café
Leafy Greens Café is a plant-based, living food café. This is Joburg’s first raw vegan café, and offers you a fresh, organic, raw vegan menu for you to choose from. From delicious cold or hot soups to raw sushi, they have selections of flavours and textures depending on what you feel like munching on for a healthy breakfast or a lunch out. Be sure to try their Vegan Chicken Wings! Their Mushroom ‘Calamari’ sounds quite interesting and creative! The ‘calamari’ is made from mushrooms with a flaxseed coating served with raw tree nut cheese tartare sauce and capers!
