L'atelier Bakery Opens For Collection & Delivery

Joburg Admin / June 24, 2020

Just a few weeks before the country entered lockdown, L'atelier Bakery hosted its grand opening event. We were lucky enough to be invited along to sample some of their delectable menu items. What we found was undeniably chic and quintessentially Parisian. This elegant bakery offers a stunning selection of cakes and pastries, neatly displayed to attract your attention from any angle of the restaurant floor. It also gifts its patrons with an atmosphere quite unlike any other cake shop and eatery in the city. L'atelier promised to be a hot spot for cosmopolitan foodies and pastry lovers. Located on the first floor of the Trumpet Building along Keyes Art Mile, we had it pegged as the next hub for First Thursdays in the City. Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, sadly L'atelier's grand opening was followed by a period of closure. All throughout hard lockdown, we reminisced over their delicious mini tartlets, canapes and cakes. Now, we've been delivered the best possible news since we first got wind of their opening - L'atelier Bakery is offering collection and delivery in level 3 lockdown! What's On The Menu?

L'atelier Bakery is the brain child of pastry chef and restaurateur, Laetitia Van Waeyenberge. A self-taught chef, she trained at EFL culinary school in Belgium to further perfect her skills. Laetitia and her team of chefs are experts in French and Belgian delicacies, from French Madeleines to croissants, baguettes and much more. However, L'atelier Bakery is more than just a cake shop. They also offer tasty breakfasts and savoury eats. Here are our top picks of what they've got on offer in level 3 lockdown:

Breakfast

Start your day off on the perfect note with a breakfast specially prepared by L'atelier's chefs. Their Breakfast Bruschetta Bar has all you need to get on the go - Eggs Benedict served with spinach and feta. Paired with a fresh juice or a rich and creamy coffee from Afrikoa Cafe, its sister restaurant just next door, this breakfast is simply divine.

Savoury Snacks

There's nothing better to get you through the mid-morning slump than a savoury filled croissant. L'atelier offers three varieties of this filling snack, including a decadent salmon, cream cheese and avocado option. But if you're looking for something a little more substantial to tide you over till lunch, pick up one of their Feuillete Saucisse - puff pastry stuffed with vienna sausages, minced meat or cheese. It's the perfect indulgence.

Lunch

If you are fortunate enough to work or live near Keyes Art Mile, pop into the bakery at lunchtime to order their soup of the day. You'll have the option of tomato, butternut or carrot with coconut, served with grated cheese and crispy croutons. Alternatively, spoil yourself with a generous slice of quiche. Made from the flakiest pastry, rich cheese, cream and the freshest eggs, it's a definite must-try.

Sweet Specialties

Of course, you may want to visit L'atelier Bakery simply to treat yourself to a selection of their specialty pasties and tartlets. We can hardly blame you! In level 3 lockdown, L'atelier will be offering an array of divine biscuits, filled pastries and tangy tartlets for you to enjoy at home. Chocoholics, there's good news for you, too. You can order an assortment of chocolate truffles and Afrikoa chocolate bars from the bakery for collection or delivery.
