L'atelier Bakery - A Taste Of Paris In The Heart Of Rosebank

Joburg Admin / March 11, 2020

Sweet Dreams

L'atelier Bakery is the brainchild of Belgian pastry chef, Laetitia Van Waeyenberge. Expressing her gratitude to guests at the launch, Laetitia said that her goal is to bring the flavours of Paris and Belgium to Johannesburg. She explained that the bakery will function as a supplier to hotels and events venues, as well as a walk-in sales point. L'atelier is also set to become the go-to caterer for baby showers, kitchen teas and birthdays. Whether you choose to host your event inside the Trumpet Building's breezy atrium or at your own venue, L'atelier is ready to delight your guests with an assortment of French and Belgian treats. French Elegance

The bakery in itself is petite, offering minimal seating along its side wall. However, this does not detract from the experience of dining here. The decor is quintessentially Parisian, with pops of blush pink, rose gold and leafy greens. The seating is comfortable without being clunky, offering patrons a space to sit and chat for hours over their pastries. However, there is also ample seating just beyond the bakery, in the space between L'atelier and Afrikoa Cafe - another one of Laetitia's culinary babies. Alternatively, you can take a seat on the outdoor deck which overlooks the bustling Keyes Art Mile below.  Latelier Bakery

Fancy Food

L'atelier's menu is yet to be finalised, however Laetitia and her team promise a divine selection of pastries, cakes, tartlets, sandwiches and wholesome salads to come. Pick up a cup of single origin Rwandan coffee at Afrikoa next door and you'll be set for foodie heaven. We were lucky enough to sample an array of L'atelier's offerings at the opening, including a smorgasbord of French cheese, cold cuts, breads and pâtés. But, of course, it was their fine selection of sweet delights that stole the limelight. We had a taste of L'atelier's buttery croissants, a mini raspberry tart, a slice of vanilla custard tart and a few macaroons to round off the feast! Not overloaded with sugar, these perfectly prepared pastries went down a treat. We must thank Laetitia and her team for putting up with our indecisiveness over which pastries to sample. There were simply too many choices. When you visit, be sure to ask your server for their guidance in choosing a tasting plate. While we are certain that all of L'atelier's pastries are scrumptious, they can help you create a flavour journey on your plate, pairing sweet with sour, freshness with buttery goodness and the bitterness of dark, African chocolate with nutty flavours. Laetitia also made a point of inviting guests back to sample the bakery's cheesecake, which she claims is simply divine. Being the cheesecake lovers we are, we will most certainly be back to sample a slice or two. All in all, we concur that L'atelier knows their stuff when it comes to French pastry. Well worth a visit, stop by on your next trip through Keyes Art Mile and indulge your inner sweet tooth.
