Best Winter Menus to Try 2016

Joburg Admin / May 5, 2016

District Six Hearty stews, soups and curries all under one roof. We can't stop talking about District Six in Emmarentia because it's so, so, so good. The food is warm and filling and the hospitality something on par with breaking bread at your gran's house. Make sure you try the bredie! Mugg & Bean Tasty tea floats and hearty soups are just some of the treats that you can expect from Mugg & Bean's winter 2016 menu. It seems that they've kept the focus on flavour and comfort, and we're extremely happy about that! Be sure to pay them a visit and give some of their new menu items a try. Kong Roast The heroes at Kong Roast in Fourways have put together a winter tasting menu which consists of lamb gyoza, pork and prawn sui mai, butternut soup, spicy prawn soup, lamb massuman curry, chicken basil chilli, malva pudding and chocolate pancakes. All this for R250 per person is a deal times 10. The winter tasting menu will be available from 09 May to 31 July 2016. Countess Thursdays and Friday will see the steampunk themed restaurant, Countess, at 27 Boxes in Melville kick off its Burger Festival. That's right, a complete menu stacked with the best and most creative hamburgers you've ever seen. If we may suggest, the slow cooked rib burger with bourbon caramel sauce is amazing. 2-2 EB Social Kitchen & Bar Why not grab the family and head to EB Social in Hydepark. Their fireplace is warm and inviting and their head chef is planning a winter menu so special that they didn't even want to spill the beans after we asked them very nicely. It's all good because we're all in for a great surprise. Higher Ground Situated on the grounds of St Stithians College, Higher Ground Restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy some heat with friends or for an intimate dinner with loved ones. Sit by one of their two fireplaces to keep the chills away as the night rolls in. Our top dish at Higher Ground would be the fillet saltibucca pasta which consists of scallops of beef fillet pan fried in white wine with garlic, rosemary and sage.
