Johannesburg’s dining scene has just turned up a notch! The Pot Luck Club by Luke Dale Roberts has moved from Oxford Parks in Rosebank to The Peech Hotel in Melrose. The original Pot Luck Club Cape Town in Woodstock as well as its Johannesburg younger counterpart are renowned for their innovative, globally inspired dishes and signature small-plate dining.

The Pot Luck Is Back For Good!
For the restaurant and the boutique hotel, the relocation to Melrose’s The Peech Hotel represents a significant turning point. The Peech, which is well-known for its Afro-Chic aesthetic and cosy setting, commemorated its 20th anniversary in 2024.
Since The Pot Luck Club opened, the hotel has provided both residents and guests with a dining experience that complements its philosophy of subtle elegance. The new Pot Luck Club Johannesburg, located in the lush two-acre garden of The Peech, offers both indoor and outdoor dining options. As well as Sunday lunches that are perfect for families and get-togethers with friends. Regulars of Pot Luck will recognise the distinctive interior design aesthetic.
What To Expect?
The Peech’s owners, James and Vicky, have always envisioned the boutique city hotel as a place where luxury, comfort, and first-rate service all coexist. As The Pot Luck Club introduces its creative and vibrant approach to the hotel’s dining experience, collaborating with Luke Dale Roberts and his team ushers in a new era.
“I’ve always been a tremendous admirer of Luke’s food, and his approach as a restaurateur and chef,” says James Peech. “Marking 20 years in business was a turning point for our family-run hotel, and we wanted to continue evolving what we offer both travellers and locals. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Luke in this next chapter.”

Luke Dale Roberts shares his excitement about the move: “The new location at The Peech is absolutely ideal, offering both indoor and outdoor seating, including a lovely terrace and vibrant gardens. We want guests to start with a Pot Luck signature cocktail in the gardens and then either stroll over to the restaurant for their meal or choose to dine beneath the tree canopies. It’s the perfect setting for a relaxed lunch or dinner in a peaceful, beautiful environment. When James and Vicky presented the idea to us, we gave it careful thought. The Peech, renowned as one of the continent’s finest boutique hotels, aligns perfectly with our values. This new chapter for The Pot Luck Club feels like a natural evolution.“
The Atmosphere
The restaurant space, which was once occupied by Basalt, has been transformed. Richard Ball of RAB Designs and Aparna Ramani of Aparna Ramani Design collaborated on the redesign, which combines the hotel’s understated elegance with the urban energy of The Pot Luck Club.
Natural materials that reflect the surrounding gardens, like terracotta tiles, oak flooring, and Namibian marble, add warmth and texture. While original furniture from The Peech and The Pot Luck Club has been carefully reworked to maintain continuity, industrial elements such as exposed steel furniture and city-grey tiles provide contrast.

Lighting and art are essential for defining the area. An eye-catching origami installation by artist Maia Lehr-Sacks adds movement and nostalgia. While soft linear LEDs draw attention to architectural details.
Artist David Tsoka explores themes of interconnectedness in his monotype artworks, which connect the organic and the mechanical. The end effect is a room that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, feeling both familiar and fresh.
The Dining Experience
Head Chef Ebie du Toit is in charge of the Johannesburg kitchen. Assisting Group Executive Chef Jason Kosmas of Pot Luck Club, who has extensive experience and understanding of the restaurant’s culinary philosophy.
Together with Kosmas, Du Toit makes sure that the Pot Luck Club’s renowned menu and service are maintained. While also embracing new ideas from its new location.

Regulars will find the menu comfortingly familiar. Pot Luck’s signature bread course kicks off the experience. And then there are “Family Favourites,” which include classic crowd-pleasers like the amazing beef fillet with café au lait sauce. As well as the well-known chickpea fries with aioli and smoked ketchup.
While new menu additions guaranteed, some classics have been modified for The Peech.
