Craving sushi? We know just the place! Head to Bedfordview and visit one of its finest sushi and dim sum restaurants – Yamitsuki. It’s also one of the few teppanyaki restaurants in Joburg. This spot is an absolute must-visit, and here’s why!
About Yamitsuki
Starting out in 2000, Yamitsuki brought the concept of Japanese-style cuisine via a conveyor belt to Bedfordview. It is defined as a one-stop sushi and oriental cuisine hot spot. Here, you can expect to enjoy the freshest sushi and a healthy meal, fantastic service from their staff, a relaxing dining space, and a sensory experience that’ll have you returning time and time again.
Yamitsuki’s delicious and moreish dishes are all freshly prepared daily by their highly-skilled ninja sushi chefs at their sushi bar. Other cuisine options you can enjoy at this restaurant include a noodle, teppanyaki and a dim sum bar.
Their dishes are prepared and served either via sit-down, takeaway or delivery. Their warm and inviting space, friendly service, menu, and great value ensures diners have an unforgettable experience that becomes addictive.
What’s On The Menu?
Initially focusing on high-quality traditional sushi, noodles, and teppanyaki dishes, they’ve evolved their menu over the years to include Thai and Chinese influences, which led to the creation of their fusion Asian offering. You can now also expect to find a variety of oriental soups and curries, tasty sweet and sour dishes, as well as the inclusion of the noodle and teppanyaki bars.
Dim Sum
Dive into a trove of beautiful and delicious dumplings hot off the bamboo steamers. Patrons can expect options such as spinach and cream cheese, coriander chicken with cashews, and chicken, basil, and chilli to name a few.
Sushi
Yamitsuki’s claim to fame is its sushi, or to be more precise, its flaming sushi. The restaurant’s dedication to the craft is evident in the fact that they have a sushi bar complete with conveyor belt. With a sushi menu as long as the N1 highway, one thing is for certain – it’s all delicious! Interesting varieties include sweet chili shrimp rolls, wagyu rolls, and the prawn tempura, cheese and smoked salmon with dynamite sauce and thick soy sauce. There are no wrong choices! Simply just let your taste buds explore all of the flavours and combinations their menu has to offer.
Stir Fry, Noodles & Curry
You can’t have Asian food without stir fry and noodles! But a lesser known Japanese dish is curry. Yup, you read that right. Curries have become so popular in Japenese cuisine that it’s been added to the country’s list of national dishes. Patrons can expect tangy curry flavours, served with a side of choice chicken, vegetable, or prawns. And for added variety, the menu also boasts Thai green and red curries served with veg, chicken, or prawn.
For the noodles, you can choose between steamed rice, coconut rice, egg fried, egg noodle or rice noodles served with a protein of your choice (veg, beef fillet, calamari, prawn, or chicken). These come with a variety of sauces such as smokey soy, spicy cashew, or sweet and sour. The stir fries sing a song about the usual suspects such as sweet and sour, crispy beef, and chicken cashew nut.
Western Flavours & Signature Drinks
There are a handful of yōshoku (Western cuisine) that pop up on the menu. These items include hamburgers, ribs, fillet steak and fish and chips, lending familiarity to an otherwise foreign menu.
The drinks menu sings songs as sweet as the breeze at the foot of Mount Fuji during springtime. A must-have would be their signature Wasabi Martini, complete with a fire show. It’s the perfect balance of bitter and fresh, topped off with an amazing show of theatrics. If you’re after a dining experience with a difference, stop by Yamitsuki on your next Friday night jaunt.
