The corner of Bolton and Jan Smuts is turning into a subculture of its own. Each day of the week one can find locals lining the pavement with designer cocktails and hairdos. It is a hotspot for millennial journeymen to unwind and be seen. One of the latest additions to the Bolton corner cluster, is A Streetbar Named Desire. Though not brand new, the tapas and cocktail lounge recently celebrated its ninth month of service.
Life Imitates Art At A Streetbar Named Desire
Much like the Tennessee Williams play, A Streetbar Named Desire oozes sexual charisma. This can be picked up from the food and drinks menu to the décor and design. The branding, illustrations and photography for A Streetbar Named Desire was done by the celebrated design and art duo, Jana + Koos. Assuming to resemble the Kowalski apartment from A Streetcar Named Desire, the restaurant and lounge is something that Instagram dreams are made of. Visitors can expect a high ceiling restaurant area painted dark green, white marble bar tops and quirky cutlery and crockery. The attention to detail screams to be appreciated.
The Tapas At A Streetbar Named Desire
Kicking off with the bar snacks section, patrons can expect interesting entries such as deep fried olives, hummus with an edible veggie patch, and fried artichoke hearts. Tapas are divided into three sections, seafood and meat, veggie and something sweet. The whole idea behind the tapas trend is simple: eat a little, drink a little, talk a lot. The harissa marinated sirloin with preserved lemon chimichurri is a clear winner and can be perfectly paired with the vegetarian sweet potatoes topped with feta, almonds and pomegranate. Other interesting items include the cured trout tartare with pickled onions, tarragon and pistachio nuts. Creativity
The Cocktails At A Streetbar Named Desire
Armed with not one, not two but three bars, A Streetbar Named Desire takes cocktails seriously. The menu was perfectly curated with the aid of top mixologists. The cocktail crowd will enjoy the wide selection of booze mixes on offer. Start off your visit with an Epic Fornications which consists of vodka, pear liqueur, pear puree, lemon juice, elderflower liqueur and soda. This refreshing drink add just the right amount of sweetness to an evening of adventure. Next take on the Gingerbread Mule, which is a unique spin on the usual Moscow Mule. Tasting exactly like a gingerbread biscuit, the drinks is made up of vodka gingerbread syrup, lime and apple juice, and ginger beer. It’s clear that the dudes behind the bar know what they are doing and we’re convinced that there is not a single wrong choice on the cocktail menu.
