Roxanne's Rum Eatery Is Calling Your Name

Joburg Admin / December 5, 2017

The one thing I need to stress is that Roxanne's is not the kind of place you go to for a family dinner. Well, you can but your kids might just leave there with sailor tattoos and a keen interest in Sting & The Police (which is a good thing, we all need a bit of Sting in our lives). Either way, the vibe is hip, happening and lekker. Roxanne's Rum Eatery is the kind of place you go to with the gang and have a bite to eat, get a good buzz going and bliss out until late. Roxanne's Rum Eatery Let's line the stomach before we get to the "Rum" part of this establishment's namesake. The food is a mix of local and Caribbean flavours brought together in an impeccable fashion. I went for the 300g rum-basted rump steak with chips, a salad and some sweet chilli sauce (which is super spicy - one of my addictions) and my blushing ladylove settled for the vegetarian platter which consisted of crumbed mushrooms, beetroot and hummus balls, black bean and quinoa balls, chickpea balls, grilled veg, capsicum and greens and a buttered rum sauce. roxanne's rum eatery What makes this booze 'n food spot even more rock 'n roll is their Fallen Heroes Tattoo Studio where they get a tattoo artist in every now and then to dish out ink to interested patrons. Keep an eye on Roxanne's Facebook to see when the next tattoo party's going down - it looks awesome. That's all good but what's up with the cocktail menu? Rum for days, my dudes ... rum for days. Roxanne's Rum Eatery boasts a line of mixologists that can slap together a steady drink with some of the best blokes in the business. Their rum menu is extensive and their cocktails are moderately priced and brilliantly constructed. This brings us to the coup de gras - their desserts. They have this chocolate waffle thing that's just black and beautiful. It consists of two chocolate waffles topped with ice cream and a dollop of ... activated charcoal cream. Yup. it's tasty regardless. Their dessert menu is pretty sexy, to say the least. It's a treat you'd best experience for yourself, no spoilers! Do yourself a favour and just skim through Roxanne's Rum Eatery's Instagram page and you'll get an idea of what it's all about ... you'll thank us in the morning for telling you about this super Jozi establishment. Find more information here. *Please note this restaurant us currently closed while they search for a new venue.
