The Joburg French Cine Club returns to The Bioscope in partnership with Alliance Française Johannesburg. If you're a film fan, this is one you'll want to bookmark. Time to get excited for an evening of French cinema and, of course, wine. To start us off strong, the first movie screened will be L’amour et les forêts (Just The Two Of Us). We can't wait!
What Can I Expect?
This special screening forms part of the Joburg French Cine Club, a monthly celebration of French cinema running until July 2026. While the club usually takes place on the second Thursday of each month, January’s screening shifts slightly due to the holiday period. You're invited to arrive from 6:30 pm, where your R100 ticket includes a complimentary glass of wine. The film begins at 7:00 pm, and there'll be a short introduction for some context and insight before you dive in.
The opening evening’s feature is L’amour et les forêts (Just The Two Of Us), a 2023 psychological drama directed by Valérie Donzelli. It's been screened at the iconic Cannes Film Festival, so you know it's worth a watch. The film runs for 1 hour and 45 minutes and follows Blanche Renard, whose whirlwind romance slowly unravels into a deeply unsettling and dangerous relationship. It’s an intense, emotional watch that explores love, control, and survival. Very French. We love it.
The event is organised with the support of IF Cinema/Institut Français, and as always at The Bioscope, all foreign-language films are screened with subtitles.
