The museum contains personal belongings, paintings and photos of this very important figure in South African history.The Mandela House provides a meaningful experience to all visitors. It informs them of Nelson Mandela’s story, both in the context of his home, and in the context of his life as a whole. It documents his struggle during Aparthied, his significance in South Africa and his life in a manner that promotes human rights, democracy, reconciliation, mutual respect and tolerance amongst the peoples of South Africa.

Former South African President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and his family lived in this house from 1946 until the 1990’s. He donated the house to the Soweto Heritage Trust on 1 September 1997 and since 1999 it has been open to the public under the National Heritage Trust.
