I went on the search for some awesome breakfast spots in Joburg! From all-day brekkie hot spots to great morning must-visits, here’s our list of restaurants and cafes offering some scrumptious meals, whether you’re an early bird or not. Brekkies are not just for mornings, they’re perfect for anytime of the day.
Glenda’s
Glenda’s in Hyde Park emerges as an exceptional breakfast spot, situated in the vibrant heart of trendy Hyde Park. Glenda’s Restaurant is a culinary haven masterfully curated by the passionate restaurateur, Glenda Lederle.
The all-day menu, a testament to the restaurant’s versatility, offering a delightful array of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A standout feature is the sweet breakfast selection, featuring tantalising pancakes drenched in rich maple syrup or the classic and indulgent eggs benedict. The inviting ambiance, coupled with Glenda’s commitment to culinary excellence, makes this establishment a must-visit for those seeking a gastronomic experience that transcends the ordinary.


Arbour Café & Courtyard
For the ultimate on Saturday or Sunday brunch experience, we highly suggest you visit the French-inspired Arbour Café & Courtyard in Birdhaven. Join them for their L’Ormarins Bottomless Mimosa Brunch! Choose your brunch main from a selection of dishes including Brioche French Toast; Avo Benedict; and Bacon, cheddar, mozzarella, avo, feta cheese and basil pesto omelette. Then, treat yourself to bottomless L’Ormarins mimosas to complement your brekkie. Booking is highly suggested.
Oregano Bakery & Pantry
One of our new favourite brekkie stops in Craighall Park, Oregano Bakery & Pantry offers all day breakfasts! And we cannot tell you how delicious their morning delights are! You need to visit them to try it yourself. Our favourites include the Eggs Benedict, Salmon Avo Toast, and the Chocolate Babka French Toast. And for some savoury baked goodness, their quiches are fantastic. Don’t forget to order one of their Signature Individual Milktarts perfect for teatime.


Goddess Café
Indulge in brekkie all day, at any time at one of Joburg’s most Instagrammable cafes in Joburg – Goddess Café. This is definitely a lovely spot to enjoy the most important meal of the day.
There are plenty of brekkie dishes to choose from, including the Luxury Egg Scramble – creamy scrambled eggs tossed with fresh herbs and chopped smoked salmon on sourdough toast, topped with rocket and parmesan shavings. Other must-tries are the Breakfast Quiches; the American Pancake Stack; and their NEW Brioche French Toast.
Mugg & Bean
Mugg & Bean is known for their famous all-day brekkies and brunches! And let’s not forget about their selection of giant muffins, amazing frappés and fantastic bottomless coffees!
The Big Ben Eggs Benedict is perfect if you’re looking for something filling and delicious – English muffin topped with baby spinach, grilled tomato, hash browns, cheddar, hickory ham, back bacon and battered onion rings. Or tuck into a South African Farm Breakfast – two eggs, back bacon, a hash brown, grilled tomato and boerewors topped with tomato chutney. And you can even build your own omelette!


Wimpy
Definitely a nostalgic brekkie hotspot, Wimpy still serves up all-day breakfasts that’s sure to put a spring in your step any time of the day.
Take your pick from their famous Farmhouse Breakfast; the Lekker Breakfast; or the Mega Breakfast, all under R100*! And if you’re looking for a light breakfast, choose from their variety of toasted sarmies and deliciously-filled wraps. We love the Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap and the Fully Loaded Dagwood.
Spur Steak Ranches
If you haven’t tried a brekkie at Spur, then you definitely should! This is one of our new favourite brekkie spots in Joburg. Yes, we love their spicy buffalo wings and ribs, but the breakfasts just hit the spot.
Served until 11:00 daily, take your pick from a variety of filling breakfast dishes, including the NEW Cheddamelt Breakfast – 100g beef patty, 2 fried eggs, slice of cheese, creamy mushroom sauce served with chips and 2 slices of toast. Or the Ranch Breakfast – 2 fried eggs, 2 rashers of grilled bacon, 100g steak, fried tomato, 2 pork sausages OR farm-style wors, and mushrooms served with chips and 2 slices of toast. They also have carb-conscious and vegan-friendly options available.


Mikes Heritage House
Serving hearty brekkies since 1982, Mikes Heritage House in Parktown is a must if you’re looking for a great brekkie spots in Joburg. Rumour has it, they have the best South African Breakfast in town. Breakfast is served from 08:00 to 12:00.
The South African Breakfast is a hearty one – two eggs, bacon, mushrooms, two grilled tomato, 150g burger patty, 150g wors and toast. But one of our favourites has to be either the Prego Breakfast – 200g sirloin, flame grilled then finished off in the pan with our Prego sauce, topped with two fried eggs, served with fresh avo and toast. Or the Prawn Breakfast – scrambled eggs served on a base of Thai curry sauce, topped with three de-shelled pan-grilled prawns and toast.
The Whippet
If you’re an early bird, we highly recommend an morning visit to The Whippet in Linden for a great brekkie to start off your day.
Their coffees are amazing, and will certainly put a buzz in your step and start your morning on a great note. A breakfast dish we highly suggest is the The Buttermilk Chicken Benedict. And another – The Breakfast Burrito! Be sure to visit for brekkie during the week, as this spot is very busy over weekends.


Nice on 4th
Known as one of Joburg’s favourite brekkie and brunch spots, Nice on 4th in Parkhurst is definitely a must-visit if you happen to be in the area and in time for breakfast. Brunch is served until 14:00 daily.
One of their popular breakfast/brunch dishes is the Half & Half – brekkie and dessert on one plate! Make your choice in egg basket for something savoury, along with a crumpet stack for something sweet. We believe this is the perfect breakfast combination! Other than this, there are other hearty options including Croissants with a selection of fillings, the Seasonal Fruit Oat Bowl, and Healthy Breakfast options.
Second Cup
Nestled on a quaint smallholding in Weltevredenpark, away from the bustling cityscape of Johannesburg, Second Cup in Roodepoort stands as a delightful breakfast haven. This charming spot exudes a serene ambiance, offering respite from the urban chaos. The menu boasts a tempting array of breakfast options, featuring delectable homemade white sourdough and rye bread that adds a touch of artisanal charm to each dish. What sets Second Cup apart is not just the picturesque setting, but also the affordability of their breakfast offerings, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a tranquil morning retreat without breaking the bank.


Café Billi Bi
For early birds in search of a breakfast haven, Café Billi Bi at Stoneridge Centre, Edenvale beckons with open doors from 7:00 onwards. This culinary gem provides a refreshing start to the day with an array of healthy options and protein-packed breakfasts. Dive into the day with choices like the scrumptious smoked salmon or opt for the protein power selections. However, for those seeking a bold and savoury twist to their morning feast, the spotlight falls on the rich and delectable chicken livers paired with a perfectly fried egg.
Upcycled Café
Located in Boksburg, the Upcycled Café is where creativity and sustainability converge to put the “extra” in ordinary. As a division of Lazeeza’s Bakery, this charming dining haven seamlessly blends exquisite upcycled decor with the tantalising aroma of freshly prepared, mouthwatering dishes that redefine the meaning of delicious. Here, every corner tells a story as repurposed materials transform into unique, eye-catching pieces.
