Cowboy Town South Africa

The Rootin’ Tootin’ Must-Visit In The West!

Although this is a small destination that’s hidden on the outskirts of Krugersdorp, it is definitely a must-visit if you’re looking for something unique to do over the weekend. You’ll feel as if you have travelled back in time to a little old American Wild West village, full of cowboy hats, saloons, and old town charm. Cowboy Town hosts a selection of interesting shops, full of trinkets, crafts, antiques, memorabilia and things to see.

Looking for some grub? There are a few restaurants to choose from, depending on what you feel like. Whether it’s an ice-cold beer on a hot summer day or a hearty meal to put a giddy up in your step, there’s something that’s sure to delight. In the village square, you’ll get to enjoy live country music performed from various talented musicians. This definitely adds to the ambience and feel of this little town.

Also, there’s a kiddies playground to keep the little ones busy. And don’t forget to stop by all of the selfie opportunity spots that’ll add a bit of Western aesthetic to your pictures.

Why You Need To Visit Cowboy Town

There are many reasons why you need to visit this unique Western town in the West Rand. There’s plenty of delicious food, interesting stores, friendly people, and amazing vibes in store! But these are the highlights of our visit to Cowboy Town that we thoroughly enjoyed.

The Eisbein at Cowboy Café

After taking a stroll through the town, we decided to grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants onsite. We were lassoed into Cowboy Café by one of the friendly waiters and amazed by the Eisbein! This is one of the first things you see as soon as you walk into the café – Eisbein being prepared and smoked at the entrance and Eisbein on almost every table. Definitely a popular dish, and for good reason! Since everyone was ranting and raving about the dish, we order one, too. Best decision, ever!

Arrive hungry, as this 1.2kg Eisbein is sure to leave you stuffed to the gills! It’s served with a hearty portion of chips and onion rings, which were just as moreish as they Eisbein itself. It’s perfectly smoked, succulent, and well seasoned. Not dry at all! And best of all, the price won’t bust your budget – R140 for this filling meal! Try it, you definitely won’t regret it.

The Cowboy Town Sunday Pop-Up Market

Every Sunday, Cowboy Town hosts a Pop-Up Market full of amazing finds, vintage antiques, beautiful art, lovely plants, great food, leather accessories, fashion and more. This is the perfect spot to wind down the weekend on a high note, relax with family and friends, and just make the most of your Sunday.

There will be live music to keep visitors entertained, as well as a few thrills for the kids. Just be sure to arrive early, as parking can be a little bit of an issue once the crowds start arriving. Entry to the market is free. But remember to take along some cash for the car guards and a few of the stalls that might not have card machines if you wish to do some shopping.

The Country Vibe

We really loved the Western country vibe this destination exuded! It’s definitely something different from the usual everyday hustle and bustle of Joburg living. Enjoy the live country music by various talented artists. Take in the slow pace of the small town. And if you’re lucky, you might just get the opportunity to enjoy a do-si-do in the village square.

Also, be sure to keep an eye out, as sometimes they host camel rides for visitors, also well as they opportunity to view old cars, and steel horses that visit the town over the weekend.

Cowboy Town Is A Treasure Trove

As we mentioned, Cowboy Town offers a wide selection of shops for you to browse and explore. You can expect to find everything from amazing antiques, leather handbags, cowboy hats, gadgets and gun accessories, sweet treats, goodies for the kids and more.

What we love about this place is there’s something for everyone and you’re sure to make a great find along the way.
