Harpers – A Must-Visit
Harpers Restaurant and Coffee Shop opened its doors at Eastgate Mall in 2017. However, what many of this cultured cafe's loyal patrons don't know is that the restaurant was first established in 1979. Bringing Joburg foodies top quality meals and service, Harpers has become a firm favourite among coffee and cake lovers.
However, this chic eatery is not only about the sweet side of life. They also cater to meat lovers, vegetarians, Mexican food fans and Italian pasta aficionados. Harpers also has a few special surprises for the kids, so the whole family can come along for breakfast, lunch or an early dinner.
Not Your Typical Mall Restaurant
Harpers is not what we would call a mall restaurant. Tucked far away from the busy food court, this cafe is worthy of being called Bedfordview's favourite coffee shop. With stylish gold fixtures, bold green prints and elegant lighting, Harpers is far from the average. It almost seems transported from a posh Rosebank hotel, with its display of perfectly piped cakes and pastries.
Being quite far removed from the action of the mall, the restaurant is also lovely and quiet. The only downside is that the restaurant looks directly out onto the basement parking, but this can easily be ignored. Harpers is otherwise the perfect spot to catch up with friends or take your special someone on a brunch date.
As Harpers is first and foremost a coffee shop and cakery, we recommend that you stop by the display stand on your way in. Even if you are visiting with the intention of having a sit down meal, you can always pick up something sweet for later. From delightful gingerbread men and ladies, to macarons and fruit carrot cake, Harpers is sure to have a dessert to delight your palate.

Join Harpers for their traditional High Tea. This is a lovely treat if you're looking for something for a special occasion or as a lovely treat. This offer is available by booking only, and is served from 14:00 to 18:00.
Harpers is also well known for their opulent high tea, offering a delicious selection of sandwiches, crumpets, scones, petit fours and cakes. Served with your selection of Twinings floral teas, this is high tea perfection.

We love the 1940 Lady Lovely – a blend of cherry syrup and plenty of bubbles – and the Fiery Orchard – white and spiced rum, fresh lemon and apple juice, popcorn and ginger extract. Refreshing!
