It takes one back to the original, incomparable Back ‘O the Moon, a famous Sophiatown shebeen in the turbulent Fifties where everyone, rich, poor and in-between, met to feast on great jazz and great food to rub shoulders with great musicians: Miriam Makeba, Dolly Rathebe, Thandi Klaarsen, Dorothy Masuka, The Manhattan Brothers, The Woody Wood Peckers, to mention a few of all the legends.



It has, despite its size, the cozy intimate feel of a sophisticated dine and dance venue. Live entertainment is offered every evening except on Sunday and Monday; the excellent cuisine is international: there’s charming private dining-room for intimate dinners and personal occasions seating 30; two well-stocked bars guarantee to restore your faith in human nature – and the divine décor reminds one that there were a few things in the restless past worth recalling.
