Few steakhouses compare to Parktown North’s Local Grill. From the sophisticated setup to the top class service and delicious food, it’s hard to go wrong here.
But let’s start at the beginning. The bread you’re presented with while deciding what to order is not the stock standard kind that some restaurants serve, but is rather their own homemade brand that’s so good, it’s easy to fill up on it before your food arrives. I’ve made that mistake more than once – just add some olive oil and some of the dukkah they bring you and you’re in carb heaven, I kid you not.
But the main reason I visit the Local Grill is because of their free-range, grass-fed beef options - I prefer this type of meat to the usual grain-fed variety but they’ve got that, too. My fave meal here has got to be a grass-fed Greenfields beef fillet steak, topped with the above-mentioned dukkah, served with garlicky green beans on the side - it’s honestly one of my top meals to have in Joburg, you’ve got to try it.
The general setup of the place makes Local Grill a winner to celebrate special occasions at and I’ve celebrated many a birthday and anniversary here and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
Another cool thing about this place is, if you’re lucky enough, the owner will invite you on a kitchen tour where you’ll get to see how the meat is prepared. You might even get a taster or two! For those of you who don’t like to think about what you’re eating, maybe give it a skip.
So the next time you’re dying for a juicy piece of steak, a well-made burger or some free-range chicken, Local Grill is your spot.
