Get A Taste Of The Deep South At Louise & Anna Restaurant

Document

You don’t need to travel to the Deep South to get a taste of authentic Louisiana creole cuisine. Simply pop over to Louise and Anna Restaurant in Craighall for comfort food made just right.

We’ve always been curious to try authentic Louisiana Creole cuisine. The unique mix of West African, French, Spanish, and Amerindian influences is unlike any other style of food. That’s why we were so delighted to come across Louise and Anna Restaurant in Craighall.

This Louisiana-style inspired restaurant serves up a variety of Creole dishes, from gumbo, to jambalaya, Cajun fried chicken and much more. We visited them recently to get a taste of what they’ve got on offer. Needless to say, we were thoroughly impressed.

Scrumptious Brunch

We don’t know about you, but we love a good brunch. Louise and Anna serves an assortment of moreish brunch dishes, including their famous syrupy waffles.

These savoury waffles come topped with crispy bacon or popcorn chicken and are drizzled lovingly with the restaurant’s signature maple syrup. You may not think that the combination of sweet and savoury would work, but they are in fact a match made in heaven.

However, if you are in the mood for something a bit more substantial, order the Crab Benedict.

Two poached eggs on a bed of meaty crab cakes and shrimp with hollandaise sauce. Paired with Louise and Anna’s Hurricane cocktail, this is a brunch you won’t want to skip out on. The fresh and zesty passionfruit, orange juice and lime juice in the cocktail compliments the seafood incredibly well. And the little tot of booze just makes it all go down that much smoother.

Hearty Mains

The highlight of Louise and Anna’s menu is the selection of belly comforting mains. This is where you’ll find the true taste of the Deep South. Indulge in a hearty gumbo or jambalaya if you are looking for a traditional introduction to Creole cuisine.

Alternatively, try the lobster shrimp mac and cheese – Cajun style macaroni and cheese served with shrimp and lobster. It’s gorgeously cheesy, a little bit spicy and totally worth every bite.

Other standout dishes include the sweet mustard pork chops, Cajun fried chicken  and mash, and the seafood broil – a delicious Louisiana classic that serves up to six people. We’ll definitely be back soon with a group of friends to give that one a try.

Sweet Delights

Louise and Anna’s dessert menu is small but by no means disappointing. Treat your taste buds to a slice of their Banoffee Pie or sample a classic Louisiana beignet. A southern delicacy of golden fried dough covered in icing sugar. Either way, you’re sure to leave the restaurant feeling utterly satisfied and perhaps rather full.
