Don’t Miss The Vaal River Meander Wine Route
The Vaal River Meander Wine Route – held on Saturdays and Sundays over six weeks – is a well-priced weekend wine treat to beat the winter blues. It’s also a fun way to taste some great wines while exploring the various participating venues. To take part in this popular wine adventure, make sure you get your Vaal River Meander Wine Route Passport to see the selection of venues you can visit and which wines they will each be showcasing.
There will be a wine-tasting fee payable at each venue you visit, with a selection of different wine farms at each and every venue. Each venue will have at least eight wines on offer and some will have up to 16 wines. Wine-tasting fees during the six-week Vaal River Meander Wine Route are as follows:
- R30 for 8 wines
- R40 for 12 wines
- R50 for 16 wines
The Wine Route is perfect for wine connoisseurs and those who want to appreciate the wonderful wines that South Africa produces, and there are a number of different ways in which you can enjoy it. Be it by houseboat, luxury cruiser, wine route taxi, speedboat, water taxi, tour bus or your own car, the Vaal River Meander Wine Route has more ways to get around than any other wine route in the country.
The different participating venues are all diverse and offer contrasting experiences, but the common thread is that each will be presenting great South African wines. You can enjoy sipping wine at a classy hotel, in a cigar lounge or in front of a roaring fireplace in a cosy pub. You can even choose to savour your wine aboard a luxurious cruiser down Millionaire’s Mile, at sunset on a boathouse overlooking the Vaal, or in a character-filled wine cellar.
Operating times for the wine tastings are 12:00 to 18:00, however each venue has different operating times for meals, special offers, etc, so contact them directly to enquire about their wine-tasting times. Most of the venues will be selling wines at cost plus 10%, so you can purchase the wines you really enjoy at very good prices.
There are also optional extras to add to your experience, such as:
- Wine-tasting luncheon aboard a luxurious cruiser
- Special overnight weekend breaks at lodges and hotels along the Vaal
- Food and wine pairing lunches
- Houseboat weekend stays (throw anchor and moor at the different venues along the Vaal River for wine tastings)
- Special spa treatment packages
This is also a great opportunity for companies to treat their clients or staff to a lovely wine experience with or without food pairing. If you want to organise a corporate or private group outing during these six weeks, there are a number of packages to choose from, and personalised packages can be put together too, tailored for your individual, corporate or private needs.
