Eat Your Heart Out at Key West Shopping Centre

Joburg Admin / July 31, 2019

Key West Shopping Centre sits along Bedfordview's bustling Van Buuren road. After a long day's work, this is the perfect place to stop by for a quick bite to eat. With a number of fast food franchises, a local pub and a few fine dining options, Key West has a lot to offer. So, whether you find yourself hungry and cash-strapped, or in need of a new date night spot, this is the restaurant centre for you.

Family-Friendly Fast Food

Pizza Hut

Everyone loves pizza, right? Pizza Hut's deep pan pizzas are the perfect Friday night family treat. Whether you like yours with a cheesy stuffed crust, extra toppings, vegetarian or super meaty, they've got just what you need. If you are looking for the traditional pizza taste with a twist, try out their pizza folds. It's basically a pizza slice folded over into a burrito! Finish off your meal with a chocolate pizza or giant choc chip cookie. Pizza Hut offers great family style specials too, including the Huts Doubles Large - any two large pizzas for only *R179.90. Alternatively, design your very own pizza. We promise that no one will judge you for adding pineapple to your pizza (maybe).

Skippers Fish & Chips

Finding quality takeaway seafood can be surprisingly difficult. Luckily, Key West Shopping Centre is home to Skippers - the original home of good old English fish and chips. From flaky hake fillets drizzled in a squeeze of lemon, to seafood platters and homemade tartar sauce, Skippers is a fish lovers idea of heaven. Their menu offers budget options, as well as family sharing meals. Add a refreshing, house brand ice tea or or lemonade to your meal, or try out their coffee and chocolate freezachinos. Feeling particularly indulgent? Order Skippers dark chocolate deluxe frozen yogurt for dessert. All in all, Skippers is the place to go when you feel the call of the sea rumbling in your belly. Mochachos

Mexican cuisine restaurants are popping up all over the city. But, coming across a family-friendly Mexican eatery is rare. As tequila shots and super spicy dishes usually take precedence, the kids are left out of the Mexican fiesta. That's where Mochachos comes in! With a separate kiddies menu, they offer families the chance to indulge in Mexican style fajitas, cheesy nachos, enchiladas, burritos and quesadillas. If your family isn't quite ready to venture into Mexican cuisine, Mochachos also serves family-style chicken feasts, burgers and schwarmas. No more arguing over where to eat, because Mochachos has it all.

Kung Fu Kitchen

Kung Fu Kitchen Chinese take-away and restaurant has become a firm favourite at Key West Shopping Centre since opening in 2017. The restaurant is almost always busy, serving customers their most loved Asian-style dishes in generous portions. Pick up a take-away if you are in a hurry, but we recommend taking a seat at one of their tables for a full Chinese dinner. Starting with a corn and chicken soup and spring rolls, followed by your choice of rice or noodle dish. Finish up with a sticky bowtie or two and a pot of tea. Sample their flavourful cider imported directly from China if you dare. Kung Fu Kitchen is the ideal spot to introduce the kids to Asian cuisine, so bring them along for a special supper out.

Fine Dining

Vascos Seafood & Grill

Portuguese cuisine isn't difficult to come by in Bedfordview. However, Vascos Seafood and Grill take Portuguese classics to fine dining levels. Their menu features specialty seafood and grill dishes with a contemporary Portuguese flair. Stand out meals include the smoked Norwegian salmon served with onion rings, capers and fresh lemon, seared yellow fin tuna coated in sesame seeds, served with baby spinach and mustard mash and a sweet Asian dressing and King prawns grilled in lemon butter and a garlic marinade. We must also mention their crème brulee infused with fresh lavender - this light and creamy dessert goes down a treat with a glass of champagne. Book a table at Vascos for your next special occasion.

The Classic India

The Classic India specialises in North Indian cuisine, as well as Goan and South Indian dishes. The restaurant offers both take-away options, and an up market sit down experience. So, whether you are looking for a quick curry fix or a leisurely dinner, The Classic India can help you out. What makes their menu extra special is the attention to detail and a dedication to serving fresh, wholesome Indian food. With a page dedicated just to their tandoori breads, you know you are getting something special here. Treat yourself and your loved ones to a lip-smackingly good curry feast next pay day. You won't regret it for a second.

Jungle Sushi & Teppanyaki

Are you wild for sushi? Come down to Jungle Sushi and Teppanyaki. Here you will find authentic Japanese-style cuisine at reasonable prices. Their sushi platters will have you salivating - filled with hand-rolled maki, nigiri, rainbow rolls and fashion sandwiches. Or, the chef's special Pineapple Prawn Dragon Rolls which feature a crispy tempura prawn wrapped California roll with avocado. If sushi isn't your thing, try Jungle's signature teppanyaki. Served with your choice of rice or noodles, these dishes are rich in Asian flavour notes. We suggest the black pepper tuna teppanyanki - it has all the heartiness of a beef dish, while offering something unique and delicious. Key West Shopping Centre

Friday Night Fun

Local Focal Pub & Diner

Local Focal (formerly Keg and Crow) is the Bedfordview Friday night hang out spot. Serving up classic pub grub, beer and spirits, this is a great place to mingle with the locals and enjoy live sports matches on the big screen. Their Sirloin Steak and chip dish is a favourite among regulars. While things can get a little rowdy here, especially when the Boks are losing, it's all good fun. The friendly and laid back vibe will have you bringing all your friends along for after work drinks. Join in on one of their pub quiz nights for a good dose of fun and laughter.
