It’s beautiful to see how small restaurants grow into national treasures spread across the country. Doppio Zero is one of these, now with 20 locations across the country. In 2002, Doppio Zero started out as a small bakery and corner cafe in Greenside, serving some of the best open-crumb ciabatta, good coffee and excellent pizzas. Today their flagship store, Doppio Zero Sandton City has remodeled its massive store space and opened to the public.
The New Doppio Zero Sandton City
The open kitchen is an attraction point in itself. At the centre of this stands a massive copper pizza oven, resonating heat from wood fueled fires. The lounge upstairs is reminiscent of the legendary Cuban restaurant, Versailles in Miama Florida. Its interior is lit by warm tungsten. Half moon booths draped in burgundy leather line the furthest wall. Above these hang mirrors flanked by teal wallpaper. It’s the kind of place where bottles of wine are ordered and hands applaud the food coming out of the kitchen.
The space between tables are excellent, owing a sense of freedom as you sit out of earshot of the dinner party next to you. Airy and bright, with a combination of open glass areas and golden hued fittings, Doppio Zero Sandton City is a welcoming restauant. With solid wooden furniture and ultra-modern counter tops and flooring, the eatery oozes class.
Doppio Zero Sandton City Introduces Coco-Me
