Sure, it’s great to work from home, but the problem is: sometimes, it’s not the most productive environment due to loads of distractions, such as a warm bed, Netflix, games or just being plain lazy. With everyone working remotely and practicing social distancing while the COVID-19 outbreak continues, we decided to share a few tips on how to do this effectively and maintain performance, communication and deadlines.

#1 Find A Reliable Project Management Tool

In order to keep track of your team’s projects, progress and deadlines remotely, you need to implement a reliable project management tool that everyone interacts on. This will ensure that all employees know what’s going on within the company, what’s expected of them and when their projects need to be completed. This will also promote communication within the team/company.

#2 Access To Reliable Technology

Everything is turning digital, and to ensure that you can work remotely effectively, you’ll need to invest in reliable technology to keep you online. This will ensure that you can video call, email and access your relevant systems and programs to ensure you can still do your job well away from the office. #3 Set Your Hours

Now that you’re all set up, you need to set your hours. Yes, you’re working from home, but it doesn’t mean that you’re on holiday. You still need to meet your deadlines, connect with clients, host meetings and ensure you do your part. Ensure you are available on email, your phone and internal communication programs during working hours. Also, if your hours change, be sure to communicate this with your team and managers.

#4 Work Away From Distractions

Another thing about working from home is you’ll be surrounded by plenty of temptation to procrastinate – the TV in the living room along with your gaming console and Netflix, magazines, goodies in the kitchen, your bed luring you in for an afternoon nap. Set up a designated space that has limited distractions and allows you to focus on your task, such as the dining room or a study. If you need to work in your lounge, keep the TV off.

#6 Communicate Excessively

When it comes to communication during remote work, rather over-communicate than under-communicate. Not only will this keep everyone in the loop, but it will ensure clarity on what’s being done and whether or not you’ll be able to meet deadlines. Communication – be it phone calls, emails, WhatsApp or hangout messages – is essential when teams are not working within close proximity to one another.

#7 Know When To Log Off

Once the day has come to an end (AKA you have worked your hours), log off. It’s easy to get caught up in your work and try push yourself to get ahead when you’re focused, but you need to know when to call it a day and log off. Tomorrow is another day, and you can pick up right where you left off in the morning.
