The best way to get into the Christmas spirit around this time of year is actually partaking in the silliness. Decorate your tree, go out and buy outdoor lights that blink rapidly giving your neighbours epilepsy, make way too much eggnog and of course the annual carolling celebrations around Joburg.
Bryanston Carols by Candlelight
As one of my favourite markets there is very little I find wrong with this place. The Bryanston Organic Market makes for a nice trip regardless of there being any events on but with something as special as their Carols by Candlelight you are bound to have a great time. Find unique Christmas gifts as well as a nativity parade at 19h00 followed by the Carols by Candlelight ceremony.
Venue: Culross road, off Main Road, Bryanston
Date: Tuesday, 7th, 14th and 21st December, 2010 from 17h00 to 21h00
Johannesburg Zoo
The Joburg Zoo is hosting two very special events this year. The first is the big tree of lights being switched on taking place on the Saturday, 28th of November and the second being the Carols by Candlelight hosted by Khaya FM taking place on the Sunday, 5th of December, 2010. The tree of lights is truly spectacular, you buy a bulb and place it on the tree with all the profits going to charity. Call +27 11 646 2000 for more info.
