One of the most popular competitions in Joburg is taking place yet again. And this year, the widely known, annual Best of Joburg competition is celebrating their 20th birthday!

What Is Best Of Joburg?

Simply, the Best Of Joburg competition is a barometer of the best of the best in the city, all decided and voted for by Leisure Options readers. They are provided with the ballots that are published in August each year, and give their answers to around 100 categories, covering everything from the Best Cupcakes and the Best Italian Restaurant, to the Best Cocktail Bar and the Best Place to See and Be Seen.

There are also categories for top Joburg people – think Best Local DJ and Best Local TV Personality – and for the best places to visit in and around the city. Entries from readers pour in, hitting more than 100 000 votes across the 100 categories.

As for the best businesses and people in Joburg that win in their designated categories during The Best Of Joburg competition, they are provided with certificates of merit, which are proudly displayed in their stores and businesses. Winners are announced in October each year and the Leisure Options Readers’ Choice Awards Essential Booklet is published, listing all of the winners. This is definitely the perfect pocket-sized booklet to have on you when exploring the city.
