Mandela Day 2018 Lock In Your Heart At Woodrock

If you're looking to do something for the fur babies this year, come "lock in your heart" at Woodrock. To ensure that the legacy of Tata Madiba lives on for generations to come, we have to ensure that all life is treated with respect and love – and this includes animals. To pledge your commitment to animal welfare, you can purchase a padlock for R67 and secure it to the Woodrock Animal Rescue fence at the entrance to their shelter, known as the “Bridge of Commitment to Animals”. Taking the key home with you will also serve as a reminder of the animals that depend on us for their lives. Find more info, visit their website.

The Nelson Mandela School SleepOut™ Is Making A Difference!

Schools across the country are rising to the challenge and participating in The Nelson Mandela School SleepOut™ on Wednesday 18 July. So, if you are wondering how you could possibly help out, be sure to join in and help break a Guinness World Record by donating items for under-resourced schools! If you haven’t heard about The Nelson Mandela School SleepOut™, then grab a cup of coffee and pay attention. You’ll want to know about this! In a nutshell, this exciting and important event forms part of The 2018 SleepOut™ Movement, which includes:
  • The CEO SleepOut™ (11 July at Liliesleaf and 18 July on Robben Island) – where business leaders are asked to spend a winter’s night on the streets to raise funds and collect items of need for various beneficiaries.
  • The Nelson Mandela School SleepOut™ (18 July) – where school children are challenged to spend a night outdoors on their school grounds. This year’s theme is “Be A Superhero for Mandela,” and children will be collecting goods for under-resourced schools, while also attempting to create a new world record for the most children spending the night in a single venue!

Nelson Mandela Foundation's #ActionAgainstPoverty Initiative

Nelson Mandela saw himself as a servant of the people of South Africa, and he set an example fit for every human being to follow. As the custodians of his legacy, The Nelson Mandela Foundation calls on all South Africans to "make every day a Mandela Day" and, in doing so, believes that together we can eradicate the poverty that is ravaging our land. Their call is simple: "In the spirit of Madiba and his vision to spread social justice and freedom for all, this is your chance to become part of a continuous global movement for good. Let us all emulate the servant leader we loved by becoming servant leaders ourselves – Madiba change-makers." This Mandela Day – and the other 364 days of the year, they urge you to fight poverty through action and make it a movement by uploading your photos using the hashtag #ActionAgainstPoverty For more info, visit their website.
