Watch: Here’s how Julius Malema self-isolates to avoid coronavirus

Joburg Admin / March 24, 2020

A video of what EFF leader Julius Malema does during self-isolation, to combat the coronavirus, is the ultimate sneak peek for South Africans.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, shared a video on Twitter on Monday 23 March, of what he does during self-isolation in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Whether you’re a fan or not, who wouldn’t want to see the “son of the soil” in his home self-isolating, just like the rest of us?

Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s address on Monday evening, self-isolation is nowhere near its end. A 21-day lockdown has now been implemented that will last from midnight on Thursday 26 March until midnight on 16 April.

During the lockdown, all South Africans are expected to stay at home and only leave for food, medication or social grants.

The news of a lockdown won’t stir Juju as it seems he has this “stay at home” thing all figured out.

Here’s what can be seen in the video

In the video, which is only eight seconds long, by the way, Malema can be seen dressed in all black, carrying a baby on his back in what appears to be his home in Sandton, Johannesburg.

The black clothes are nowhere near a black suit for any sort of occasion — it is casual, “I’m self-isolating” clothes.

The caption of the video reads: “Self-isolation, stay at home cadres,” however, he never really disclosed any more than that.

Malema and his wife Mantoa welcomed their first child Munzhedzi in 2016 and welcomed their second, Kopano, in 2018 — a mere two years ago. It could very well be little Kopano on his back in the video.

If this is the case, Malema seems to be spending quality time with family and taking it easy while self-isolating during the coronavirus pandemic.

Here’s what the EFF had to say about SA’s lockdown

According to an EFF statement released late on Monday evening, the EFF, including Malema of course, welcomed the government’s decision to enforce a nationwide lockdown to battle to deadly coronavirus.

“The only logical and now proven mechanism to contain the continued spread of the virus [coronavirus] is a total lockdown,” it said.

The EFF called on the government to pay particular attention to poor communities and people with the purpose of making sure they don’t run out of services such as food and healthcare essentials.

“As the EFF, we hereby forbid all meetings of the organisation at all levels and should instead communicate via electronic platforms and this should apply to all organisations without failure. All offices of the EFF are hereby closed until further notice,” it added.
