Visit the HospiceWITS shop in Orange Grove this Winter

Joburg Admin / May 23, 2022

HospiceWITS provides palliative care for the terminally ill. Their philosophy emphasizes the importance of living to the fullest no matter how much time a person has left. As a non-profit organisation, HospiceWITS raises their own funds. They do this by running 11 charity shops situated across the country, as well as through donations and events. Their stores sell a variety of second-hand goods, including unique antiques and thrift goods. Give back this winter by visiting their outlet in Orange Grove. This collection of stores is the ideal place to find one-of-a-kind finds. You can also donate your pre-loved clothes, books, trinkets and accessories here. It all goes towards offering the dignity of life in death to those in need, so let's do what we can to contribute.

Book worm's paradise

We first discovered the HospiceWITS shop in Orange Grove on a book hunting adventure. Their extraordinary second-hand bookstore is a marvel. They've got every kind of book you could imagine. From children's fiction, to classics, science fiction, romance, fantasy, and everything in between. The non-fiction section is just as impressive. You can find reference books, encyclopedias and how-to guides on a wide variety of topics here, including gardening, bird watching, and home improvement. You'll undoubtedly spend hours browsing through the books at HospiceWITS, so make sure to give yourself adequate time. The books are priced fairly and you'll often find a sale on here. Come with your book bags at the ready because it can be trying to balance all your purchases!

Collector's dream

Once you've made your way through the bookstore, head to HospiceWITS' collection of antique and collectable shops. They've got a group of stores in Orange Grove, each of which stock slightly different goods:

  • Bric a Brac and Bargain shop – jewellery, homeware and collectables.
  • Children’s shop – good quality clothes, toys, board games, prams, cots.
  • Boutique style shop – excellent quality clothes.
  • Furniture shop – diverse items.
  • Linen shop - various types of linen.

Again, make sure to give yourself ample time to browse through these stores. As the saying goes "One man's junk is another's treasure", so you can never be sure what you'll find here. Even if you leave without making a purchase, the sense of nostalgia in these stores is wonderful to experience. Thrift shoppers will be even further delighted by the collection of vintage clothes, shoes, and accessories. Give fast fashion the ditch this winter and invest in a few wardrobe staples from the HospiceWITS collection. You'll be making a difference while looking fabulous and saving a precious buck.

Make a donation

If you would prefer to donate your pre-loved goods this winter, HospiceWITS will gladly take them off your hands. Drop off your second-hand books, clothes, baby items, furniture pieces or knick-knacks in Orange Grove. You are also invited to volunteer your time by helping sort through the donations at the store. You can find out more about how to get involved on the HospiceWITS website or Facebook page.
