Sempre Opera Company present Verdi's heartbreaking, yet beloved classic, La Traviata at Joburg Theatre this June. Verdi’s treasured opera is a captivating tribute to what it means to live and die for love. Cape Town-based soprano Leah Gunter makes her company and Joburg Theatre debut as Violetta Valery, one of opera’s most glorious heroines. Violetta, a worldly courtesan who has all the men of Paris at her feet, possesses boundless humanity and emotional depth. Watch as her epic and tragic love story with the naïve, but daring Alfredo Germont unfolds.
The opera is fully staged and sung in Italian with English translations projected above the stage. Award-winning conductor Schalk van der Merwe directs the orchestra, with stage direction by Pierre du Toit.
