Unique Eating Experiences At Little Addis Café

Joburg Admin / August 28, 2023

Little Addis Café brings Ethiopian dining culture directly to Johannesburg. Pay them a visit to experience it for yourself.

Little Addis Café has been one of the most popular Ethiopian restaurants in Joburg for well over a decade. Their first home in Maboneng introduced thousands of tourists and locals to the flavours of Ethiopia. They are now situated just opposite the 44 Stanley Precinct in Milpark.

As eclectic as ever, Little Addis remains a favourite among Joburg foodies. If you've been yearning for an authentic and unique dining experience, this is the place for you. Leave your reservations at home and come out to get stuck into one of the richest eating cultures in the world. Here's how it works.

Little Addis Café is an unassuming dining space. There is limited décor apart from some Ethiopian artwork on the walls. The seating is basic but comfortable enough to sit and enjoy a meal.

The food is the star of the show here. An array of scents, colours and textures await you. One of the most popular dishes on the menu, the Mahberawi platter, is a brilliant feast of chicken, beef, lamb, pumpkin, cabbage, spinach, potato and beetroot served on white or brown injera. It's a sensory delight well worth travelling to the city centre for.

Ditch The Cutlery

Knives and forks are a no-go at Little Addis - you've got to get in there with your hands to get the most authentic feel of this dining experience. All eight of the cafe's main dishes are served on a bed of injera, so you will have something to help you scoop up the delicious gravies, meats and vegetable sides. This is absolutely a sharing restaurant, so be sure to invite a few friends along.

If you are unfamiliar with Ethiopian cuisine, fear not. The cafe's owner, Kassahun Gebrehana, is known for his friendliness and eagerness to share stories about his culture with restaurant guests. The waitrons are just as knowledgeable and will happily advise you on what each dish consists of. Of course, you can do your own research beforehand, but the warm and welcoming service at Little Addis is a huge part of its charm.

Guests love the café for its reasonable pricing. The most expensive dish costs just under R200 and can easily be shared among four people. Students make up a large portion of Little Addis' clientele thanks to this, as well as the menu's vegetarian and vegan options. One and all are welcome at Little Addis Café, so visit them as soon as you can.
