Ubuntu Baba: The Ultimate South African Baby Carrier

Joburg Admin / September 18, 2017

It’s Simple

The first thing I noticed about the Ubuntu Baba Stage 1 front carrier is that putting it on is quick and easy. It took me weeks to really get the hang of the stretchy wrap situation but only took three tries to confidently get the Ubuntu Baba on with my little guy comfortably inside. Simplicity is undoubtedly one of this product’s best features – no weird knots and little legs going underneath and over, just three buckles that simply and securely click in and are easily adjusted.

It’s Comfortable and Breathable

The sensible design takes both moms and babies into account, providing a comfy and safe fit. The softly padded waistband was gentle on my C-section scar in those early weeks and this design also helps take the weight off my back and shoulders. The adjustable knee-to-knee support ensures that my little guy’s hips are, at all times, in a healthy, ergonomic position and allows the carrier to grow with him. Ubuntu Baba carriers are all made from breathable, UV-resistant organic hemp fabric, and with no extra layers between baba’s chest and mine, it’s perfect for warm Joburg days.

It’s Got Some Awesome Extras

The Ubuntu Baba carrier has a silk-lined hoodie that shields my baby’s head from the sun when we’re outdoors. While he was still very young, I used the hoodie in the rolled up position for added neck support. This is a superb safety addition you’re unlikely to find with any other product currently on the market. Another superb feature of the Ubuntu Baba is the addition of the front pocket. This is the perfect place for some baby essentials like wipes or a dummy, or – if you’re like me and prefer to do a quick grocery run without a bulky bag on your shoulder – car keys, a cellphone, a wallet and a shopping list, leaving you totally hands-free! I also purchased a set of Teething Pads with my Stage 1 Ubuntu: these are great accessories that snap on over the shoulder straps of the Ubuntu Baba, keeping it drool-free while giving my feels-like-he-is-ALWAYS-teething baby a soft place to chew. Teething Pads are made from 100% cotton, reversible, machine washable and come in a variety of colours and designs.

It Can Be Used Well Into Toddlerhood

I purchased my grey Stage 1 Ubuntu Baba carrier when my son was three months old. The Stage 1 – ideal from birth to around 14 months or 12kg – is available in grey, sage and navy. I recently joined a Facebook group called Pre-loved Ubuntu where I plan to replace my Stage 1 with a Stage 2. The Stage 2 carrier – designed for babies from nine months up to 20kg – gives you the option of a front or back carry position and is available in the same colours. Want to join the Ubuntu Baba Mama tribe? You can order your own online. And not that I think you’ll be needing it but all Ubuntu Baba orders come with a 30-day money back guarantee.
