Tuck Into Something Delicious at Jacks Bagels

Joburg Admin / August 7, 2023

We're going bonkers over bagels! Especially the selection of delicious bagels at Jacks Bagels. Located in Greenside and Eagles Landing Shopping Centre in Randpark Ridge, be sure to pay them a visit to get your fill of New York-style bagels, ranging from sweet and savoury, to something will South African flavours and flair. Also, don't forget to grab something decadent from their bakery and perhaps even a cuppa Joe that's sure to get you energised and ready to take on the day.

Who Are Jacks Bagels?

Jacks Bagels brings New York-style bagels to our beloved city! This delicious brand is named after co-owners John and J-Lee Human's son, who was 3-years-old when they opened up their first store in Port Elizabeth. The former teacher and her husband open their first shop in 2018 on Main Road in Walmer, and then the second near the end 2019 at the Perridgevale Centre in Greenacres.

The bagel duo started their journey with the traditional Jewish-style deli water bagel, but discovered that their local customers craved something lighter. The couple baked and boiled many different recipes and batches before settling on their perfect bagel – the New York-style bagel.

Now, they have branched out and have headed to Joburg to start their bagel journey in our beloved city! You can find their Joburg stores on Gleneagles Road in Greenside and at Eagles Landing Shopping Centre in Randpark Ridge. Jacks Bagels Greenside is Halaal certified. But surely, you want to know what's on the menu at these tasty destinations. Well, let's get into it!

What's On The Bagel Menu?

Where do we even begin? All we can say is that you'll be spoiled for choice. Their selection of bagels ranges from sweet and savoury to vegan and even proudly South African! There's something for breakfast, something for dessert, and plenty of options for everything else in between. Talk about variety!

So, let's start from the very top, the most important meal of the day – breakfast. Begin your day with their hearty Breakfast Bagel – a bagel filled with either bacon or pastrami, cheddar cheese, caramelised onion, and a fried egg. Yum! And if you're vegetarian, you can swap the meat options for avocado. You can also opt for one of their Simple Bagels options that are anything but simple – they're scrumptious! We love the Simple Bagel that filled with ham, cheese, lettuce, pickles, tomato, mayo, cucumber and red onion. Perfect way to start our mornings!

Don't forget to take a look at their full range of meaty bagels, including bacon, chicken, spicy beef, fillet steak, Mexican, salmon, and even Proudly South African variations. We'll mention a few of our favourites off of the menu that we think sounds absolutely incredible and interesting:

  • The Proudly South African Bagel – Biltong, avocado, cream cheese and red onion
  • The Salmon Bagel – with Cream Cheese, Capers, Cucumber, Dill and Red Onion Bagel
  • The Mexican Bagel – Cream cheese, jalapenos, tomato and pastrami
  • The Spicy Beef Bagel – Beef patty, spicy relish, lettuce, red onion and pickles

As for the sweet bagels, tuck into the oh-so decadent and chocolaty Bar One Bagel. Can never go wrong with a Bar One treat. But if you're looking to be a little adventurous with your dessert bagels, try the Gorgonzola, fig, cream cheese, and walnuts drizzled with honey bagel; or the peanut butter, fresh banana, and maple syrup bagel drizzled with granola for a little bit of crunch.

Click here to take a look at their moreish bagel menu to see if there's anything that'll tickle your taste buds.

Other Than The Bagels...

Other than a wide selection of moreish bagels, they also offer scrumptious gourmet salads that will most certainly have you coming back for more. A few salads that have caught our attention includes the Biltong, Cucumber, Tomato, Lettuce & Gorgonzola Gourmet Salad topped with a Balsamic Glaze, and the Sticky Chicken, Pineapple, Cashew Nut, Lettuce, Tomato & Cucumber Gourmet Salad.

They also offer a selection of freshly pressed juices and tasty and creamy milkshakes, perfect for complementing your delicious bagels. And of course, there's coffee on-the-go!
