Trends To Look Out For At Design Joburg

Joburg Admin / April 25, 2017

Iridescent  From vases and bowls to countertops and crockery, the iridescent trend is sending out all the good vibrations in the design world. Thabisa Mjo for Mash.T Designs will be taking part in the collaborative room sets where she'll be creating a stand entitled Fortune Favours The Brave with Tempur, and will be launching four new products of her own. You can get these decorative pieces from La Grange Interiors, exhibiting within the Rooms on View section at the event. Mid-Century Modernism  Mid-century style seems to be one of those everlasting trends that is always on-trend. Crema Design owner Craig Tabor-Raeside speaks on how there's now a reinterpretation on mid-century in a more modern way. This means you can expect the latest mid-century-inspired designs straight from Milan’s furniture fair from the likes of &Tradition, Hay and Muuto. Sounds fabulous, doesn't it? Pink When you think pink, you're likely to have 'showstopper' somewhere in your train of thought. Well, if it's showstopping designs you're looking for, then design studio Atelier’s Adri van Zyl and Joburg designer Donald Nxumalo of DNX Interior are your go-tos for an exploration of this blushing hue. For bold architectural forms, have a look at Adri's refreshing pink bathroom. For a masculine touch on pink, Donald's apartment living space ought to hit the spot. Old-School Crafting For nostalgic designs, aka old school, we're looking at the furniture designer and crafter Louw Roets. Being part of a movement towards traditional crafting, and his appreciation of those methods, means he physically engaged with his work, resulting in well-crafted pieces with a contemporary aesthetic. Look out for his wares in the Darlings feature. Give It Some Brass (And Gold) Nothing screams elegance like brass, copper and gold in metallic tones that look luxurious. Victorian Bathrooms is in agreement with this trend and has accessories that ease you into embracing it by using soap dishes, hairbrushes, tumblers and bins. This is an easy way to add a touch of glamour to your bathroom. Succulents  Skinny laMinx will be participating in the Darlings feature at the show as one of the ‘darlings of local design’. Heather Moore was inspired by her own rooftop garden in the rooftop and the drought to create a collection of fabrics featuring motifs of succulents. Clever Storage  For clever kitchen storage ideas, your first stop should be Fabri's kitchen stand. Offering the latest opening and closing mechanisms and storage solutions ideal for our lifestyles and the problematic shortage of space, Fabri is all about the trendiness of versatility in cooking havens. Outdoor Cocooning With the luxury of having an al fresco lifestyle at our disposal in SA, outdoor spaces are increasingly mimicking our indoor interiors. And the advancements in materials means we can leave our furniture outside permanently without worrying about the weather. Patio Warehouse has taken it a step further with their Emperor Daybed – it envelops the users, whether unwinding solo are more romantically with a significant other. It's All About The Babe Got a little one at home or one on the way? Then you're probably thinking of nurseries. Modern nurseries are so on-trend it's crazy. If you're after informed design, transformable furniture, locally crafted products that are socially and environmentally responsible, then you should pay Bunny & Clyde a visit at the collaborative room set stand, where they're collaborating with design trio Kimmy & Bear to create a feature entitled Growing Up. Dramatic Lighting For those who love being bold in everything they do, bold lighting is a definite must-haveNewport Lighting’s 369 Chandelier is the perfect example. The multi-armed design, scaled up for dramatic effect and finished off with feature green shades (totally customisable, of course), is the perfect statement piece for your home.
