The Discovery Canteen
Have you ever been to the old Discovery head office on West Street in Sandton before? If not, now you have a reason to visit it. As you walk in the through the main entrance, turn right and walk past the CNA (yes, Discovery has a CNA in their head office), and head towards the tonnes of people dining. Yup. The Discovery head office canteen is open to the public. The canteen serves fast food, deli sandwiches, a buffet and general canteen food. The portions are huge and the prices super cheap. I've only ever had good food there. With that said, they have an ample amount of vegan delights up for grabs but (as we all know) double check before smashing it into your mout. The canteen also serves coffee, tea and other hot and cold drinks. Don't expect gourmet dining, just decent food on the cheap... real cheap.

Baija Super Market... I Think
Yeah, I've got no idea what it's called, so you will just have to go look for it with the aid of my terrible directional skills. Okay, the store we're looking for is on the left hand side when you drive into Cyrildene's China district from the bottom. The closest corner would be Derrick Avenue and Marcia Street. Here you will find unmalted barley and other grains, bok choy, and other goodies. But if you've not been to Cyrildene before then be warned. There are a lot of chopped up fish, chicken and, duck hanging in store windows and on the pavement. If you can get through that gauntlet then you can find the coolest stuff there.

Mary's Fruit & Veg
Ever since Walmart got into the fresh produce game (that's why Game started selling food), other leading super markets have stepped up to the plate and have been increasing and decreasing prices like the rise and fall of badly balanced scrum during a rugby match. That's where the little guys have picked up the fumbled ball and ran through the front line... all of that sport-ball analogy has made me hungry. The point is, Mary's Fruit & Veg in Northcliff is a little grocer you've most likely driven past without even noticing. It can be found on the corner of Fir Drive and Pendoring Road. They serve freshly pressed juices, kale and spinach by the bunch, and if you're like you can find all kinds of funny things there, like dragon and durian fruit (the latter happened once... probably until someone opened a durian and passed out from the smell).

The Flower & Nut Market
Home made jams share the stage with dried mangoes, almonds and... gluten powder! Yup, the stuff used to make seitan with. The Flower & Nut Market in Randburg is a gem and a half to have on any vegan's list.
