Visit The Cradle Of Humankind

The Cradle of Humankind is a fascinating place that’s definitely worth a visit (or re-visit) for everyone! Maropeng, the official visitor centre for the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, provides a wealth of information when it comes to the development of humans over the last few millions of years.

Visitors will get the opportunity to see fossils, learn about the origins of humankind and inspect stone tools that are over one million years old! It’s a fascinating place to visit for people of all ages.

Explore the Sterkfontein Caves

The Sterkfontein Caves are located in Maropeng and are world famous for the amazing fossil discoveries that have been made here. It’s recommended that you take a tour through the caves so that you don't miss out on anything! The most significant fossil discoveries in the caves were 'Mrs Ples', a 2.1-million-year-old Australopithecus skull, and 'Little Foot', an almost complete Australopithecus skeleton that is over three-million years old! Note: the caves are currently closed until further notice due to flooding.

Go On A Hike At Ground

If you need to get some fresh country air in your lungs, why not lace your takkies up and take a hike in the beautiful Muldersdrift area? The Ground Venue has a beautiful property for you to enjoy and hike through. Ground has opened their farm where you can explore marked trails. The trails vary between 3 – 9km. There's a child and pram friendly route too. Bookings are essential Wednesday to Friday. Pre-book your hike or combo for Saturdays and Sundays.
