Northcliff Hill
It’s in a gated residential suburb. But not to worry, one push of the giant red button will open the boom to let you in as well as give you a little peace of mind when you park your car. Northcliff Hill goes on for quite a distance so do wear comfy shoes in case you opt for a mini-hike while capturing the panoramic Joburg skyline. Nirox Sculpture Park
It’s one of the more unique art exhibitions in Joburg. Nirox Sculpture Park was converted from an old trout farm into a platform for outdoor sculptures in Maropeng. It's open to the public for free on weekends and public holidays. Be sure to check out their website for any upcoming events and exhibitions. The Upside Down House in Hartbeespoort is a whimsical, fantastical marvel to architecture. Here you can take some truly surreal selfies in a house that is, yes, completely upside down. The Maboneng Sign
Maboneng is where all the cool kids and tourists love to explore and hang out. Situated in the inner city, this suburb is a melting pot filled to the brim with culture, exciting cuisine, unique retail experiences and more. It's almost become a cliché to have your picture taken in front of the sign in Maboneng. Nevertheless, it makes for beautiful shot in one of Joburg's most vibrant suburbs.
Walter Sisulu National Botanical gardens
Summer weather is picnic weather so pack a basket and head down to the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in Ruimsig. A small entry fee will get you in for the day and you can shoot photos amongst all the stunning flora. If that doesn’t quite speak to your inner photographer then you should make your way to the waterfall which runs along the mountain ridge. Still not satisfied? How about the fact that the some of the last Black Eagles inhabit that rockery? Volunteers have set up a live streaming camera equipped with night vision and lovingly dubbed it the ‘The Black Eagle Cam’. Nothing says home quite like the Jacarandas. They are an integral part of Joburg summers and with the blossoms in season between late September and November, now is the perfect time to head out to observe them. Bounce Trampoline Park
If the inanimate is not appealing, then you might want to aim for a more action packed selfie. Try Bounce in Midrand which is basically one giant jumping castle. There are 50 interconnected trampolines where you can practice you backflips, frontflips, flick-flacks, flying kicks and even some homemade martial arts if you fancy. Try recording a few videos in slow motion to show everyone just how talented you are.
