Neighbourgoods Market

An obvious one for choice is this market. Set in the trendy town of Braamfontein, every Saturday the Neighbourgoods Market covers two floors and is filled with craft beer and cocktails, finger-licking food and plenty of things to buy. Market On Main

Second up is Market On Main. This is a weekly market that trades in regional foods and local design. It takes place every Sunday at Arts On Main between 10:00 and 15:00, and the first Thursday of every month between 19:00 and 23:00, Market on Main is open for you to get your fix of fine food and great design. From stunning clothing and must-have accessories to gourmet eats, they’ve got it all, which makes Market On Main a great place to spend time with friends and family. Mary Fitzgerald Square

Set in the hub of the city, situated under the M2 Highway lies Mary Fitzgerald Square. It is a vibrant, unique, and cultural complex that is home to three theatres and two art galleries and on Saturday mornings a flea market continues at the theatre. Maboneng Precinct

One may feel overwhelmed at the number of things there are to do in this trendy area. Maboneng is a gentrified precinct filled with creatives, a day and night market, fine food, drinks, parties, movies and so much more! Melville

Being a residential area to most WITS and UJ students, the bustling 7th Street on Melville is filled to the brim with restaurants, bars and shops – it’s the place to go! Melville is also home to 27 Boxes, an innovative shopping centre made out of shipping containers. More and more people are flocking to this super-trendy area for food, drinks and a bit of retail therapy in this bustling centre. The best part is that its FREE! Campus Square

To all the students around Auckland Park, this is your convenience centre for almost everything. From your daily necessities, monthly groceries, retail shopping, yummy takeaways, to grabbing a quick drink with a friend, this is the square where you can get all that done and more! Zoo Lake

For a peaceful and sunny afternoon grab your mates and head to Zoo Lake. This is one of Johannesburg’s most popular outdoor spaces and certainly one of the safest, particularly over weekends. On the first weekend of the month, there is the ‘artists under the sun’ art market, which draws the crowds. You can enjoy picnics, riding, jogging and mouth-watering meals and drinks from close by restaurants. Where: Corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and West World Street
